The Life of Sandra Lombardino Sandra Lombardino is a recently retired school teacher facing a multitude of crisis’ regarding her personal life and growth. Sandra has a strong desire to vacation and enjoy her retirement via travel and volunteering, however there are barriers that will not allow those things to occur. Sandra is unhappily married to Benedito, an offensive and abusive long-time alcoholic. The couple shares four children, all of which are estranged because of Benedito’s abusive behavior. Though Sandra is overweight and has arthritis, Benedito is the only thing holding her back from achieving her retirement dreams. Sandra has a life-long list of accomplishments however; her regrets greatly outweigh her past achievements. Sandra has been in a long-term abusive relationship, she has lost a connection with her children and she is unable to enjoy her retirement; she cannot travel or volunteer, which is all credited to her marriage to Benedito. Sandra has been abused both physically and emotionally and continues to accept abuse because she feels that it is the ethical thing to do. This transition crisis may be resolved by a HSP conducting a life review of Sandra by counseling her and going over different options that are available to her, supplying her with resources that are tailored to her situation and possibly assist her in finding a good lawyer so that she doesn’t have to relinquish some of her hard-earned money to Benedito. The agency provides seniors with a host of resources that service individuals whom have been victims of abuse. Counseling, mental health, legal assistance, case management, witness assistance, shelters, crisis lines and support groups are just the beginning of what they offer (The National Committee for the Protection of Elder Abuse, 2008). This would be the perfect agency for Sandra and her family as they offer every type of assistance that Sandra and her family needs. Not only would this agency find Sandra the perfect legal assistance to safely leave her abuser but it would also allow the children to have a voice as witness. If things were to get worse for Sandra she could call the crisis line or even stay at a shelter. Also, checking out the support groups would be great for the entire family so that they know that they are not
The family dynamics of the household changed throughout the years of Dominic’s childhood. When Dominic was born, we lived in a rural neighborhood apartment that was not completely safe (My Virtual Child). Once Dominic’s sister Alexandra was born, we began saving more money and purchased a house in a safe rural neighborhood. At the end of Dominic’s childhood the household consisted of both parents and two children, Dominic and Alexandra. Throughout his childhood, his uncle stayed a summer and on another occasion a different uncle stayed for a few weeks. Both parents were employed throughout the entire childhood which resulted in placing Dominic in child-care as soon as possible (My Virtual Child).
The job of a child welfare worker appears to be a demanding profession that promotes the child’s safety, but also strengthens the family organization around them in order to successfully raise the children. This child welfare workers work in the system known as the Child Protective Services whose initiative is to protect the overall welfare of the child. The short novel From the Eye of the Storm: the Experiences of a Child Welfare Worker by Cynthia Crosson-Tower demonstrates the skills necessary to deal with the practice of social work along with both its challenges and its happy moments. The novel consists of some of the cases involving Tower’s actual career in social work. In reading the book, I was able to experience some of the actual cases in which children dealt with physical and mental abuse from their families that caused them to end up within the system. Also, some of these children had issues in adapting to foster and adoptive families based on the issues they faced earlier in life. As we have learned earlier in the course, the violence that a child experiences early in life has an overall affect on the person they become as they grow into adulthood. When children deal with adverse childhood experiences, they are at a higher risk for abusing drugs and/or alcohol, increased likelihood of abusing their own child or spouse, higher rates of violent and nonviolent criminal behavior, along with several other issues throughout their lifespan.
This is the tenth time that Lisa has been admitted to the hospital within the past two years. At least this time there aren’t any broken bones or concussions to worry about. Lisa only has two black eyes, a patch of her beautiful long hair forcibly yanked from her head, a nasty black and blue bruise on her neck and a few nails ripped directly from the newly manicured nail beds. Lisa swore to God and her best friend Brandy that this was the final straw. Actually, she made that exact same pledge under oath just three months ago, yet she is coincidently in the same position she vowed never to return to. This time was different though. She was making plans to move her things out of the small apartment that she shared with her boyfriend the minute she was discharged from Sinai Grace Hospital, and what seem to be her home away from home. Lisa has made plans for her mom to babysit her 2 year old daughter while she searches for work, and Brandy has already told Lisa she can stay with her as long as she needed to. Yet, the very next day, Lisa calls to inform Brandy that she decided to stay with Jason despite of the awful things that he has done to her. Lisa believes that Jason has changed overnight and that he deserves a second chance, besides a child needs to be raised with both parents in the home. Unfortunately Brandy was not at all surprised by the phone call, in fact, she was expecting it. As the wave of guilt and the “should’ve, could’ve, would’ve” attempts to overcome Brandy again, she quickly snapped back into reality, wiped the tears off her face and placed the white roses on Lisa’s tombstone. Joyce Stewart is seventy two year old, white female that lives in the small town of Candor New York. She has spent the majority of her life taking care of other people, including her eight children; now six due to tragic circumstances. She also was a house wife trying to survive being a mother to her children while her husband was away in the Navy. She now is a widow; her second husband passed away about ten years ago. She grew up on a farm with a low socio economic status; she overcame circumstances that she was dealt by working her entire life and eventually living a more financially stable life. Jennifer Barr is a female, Caucasian, twenty-year-old college student living in Tallahassee, Florida. Currently, she resides on her own in an apartment, although her mother, father, and brother live locally in their home. Jennifer works as a waitress in a restaurant and is actively enrolled in courses at the college; however, due to recent circumstances, her attendance has declined. Jennifer describes herself as typically having the ability to manage her school responsibilities and as having relatively positive relationships with her professors, co-workers and restaurant manager. She maintains an ongoing relationship with her father, mother, and brother. She describes her relationship with her brother as the closest, her relationship with her mother as intermittently close, although hindered by her father, whom Jennifer has not maintained a close relationship with due to what she perceives as pressure and unrealistic expectations that her father consistently has placed upon her.
Heather Millard was born in Bradenton, Florida. She was raised by her mother in Port Charlotte. After the parents divorced when Mrs. Millard was two years old the mother decide to move to Port Charlotte with a friend. The family also resided in Okeechobee, FL for a short period of time. The client’s mother had three marriages. The client stated that she has a good relationship with her current stepfather. Besides her mother and stepfather she also lives with 2 whole sisters, one half brother and two step siblings. She is single and has never been married.
Formulation of Problem/Needs: The client 's presenting problems are caused by her mother’s emotional verbal abuse. In spite of all, her emotional problems Ana maintains a positive outlook towards her future. Ana demonstrates self-determination as she clearly expresses her current issues. She struggles with overeating because she feels unloved and worthless. Ana is seeking services to overcome the resentment she feels towards her mother. She is requesting help to manage her coping skills and reduce her feelings of depression. According to Ana these feelings started at a young age. Ana’s current challenges are learning to cope with her mother’s verbal abuse. Anna will arrange monthly meetings with her social worker to talk about what methods she’s used to coping with her depression. Ana agrees that she needs to find positive away to communicate with her mother. Ana also stays that she wants to learn to be selfish and break free from the traditional stereotypical life of East LA. We have discussed home environment and patterns of poverty that she will notice during HV’s and how they are markers for ANE. She is learning to identify the appropriate situations that would apply. Timeframes were not always considered due to Supervisory case reviews not always being on time because of other Supervisory responsibilities. It communicates the individual’s struggle to be perfect, as well as the difficulties of the average middle class family in society. Rosa Lee Cunningham is a 52-year old African American female. She is 5-foot-1-inch, 145 pounds. Rosa Lee is married however, is living separately from her husband. She has eight adult children, Bobby, Richard, Ronnie, Donna (Patty), Alvin, Eric, Donald (Ducky) and one child who name she did not disclose. She bore her eldest child at age fourteen and six different men fathered her children. At Rosa Lee’s recent hospital admission to Howard University Hospital emergency room blood test revealed she is still using heroin. Though Rosa Lee recently enrolled in a drug-treatment program it does not appear that she has any intention on ending her drug usage. When asked why she no longer uses heroin she stated she doesn’t always have the resources to support her addiction. Rosa Lee is unemployed and receiving very little in government assistance. My children and I were physically abused and I had to find a way out.” Jane experienced what no person should have to endure which is Domestic Violence. Domestic Violence is commonly known as violent or aggressive behavior in the home involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner. Experiencing domestic violence can cause long term effects on young Americans. Having more programs to help these women get out of these situations and building their self-esteem will help to lessen domestic violence cases.
In this case study, Laura and Danny have had significant changes in their lives. Laura has now left with the children and planning on moving with them to El Paso, Texas in a month. She has also filed for divorce from Danny. While Laura is making positive improvements to her life she is still concerned for Danny. She goes to collect what’s left of her belongings when she finds Danny in a state of panic. Danny has let himself go at this point. He started consuming alcohol, has not found a job, and is living with no electricity. Kid decides to pay Danny and Laura a visit and he quickly realizes Danny is in trouble.
