The “Life of Pi” book to movie compare and contrast is one of many differences and similarities that all either add to the effectiveness of the movie or take away from it. Some similarities remain that keep the movie in line with the book, however, there are many differences that leave gaps in Pi’s life story. It is a long opening and takes several chapters to get into the main point of the story. In the movie version it starts out with Pi wandering through the zoo where he grew up, then cuts straight to adult Pi in Canada, telling his story to a man whose character is credited as “The Writer”. The change shortens several chapters down and gets right to the point as to not bore the audience starting right off. It works much better for the overall experience because for at least the first 100 pages the book is much of a bore. Another difference in the “Life of Pi” book and movie is that in Yann Martel 's “Life of PI” book Pi’s stay in the hospital is very detailed from his condition upon washing up on the beach of Mexico, his sodium levels, leg swelling and all. There are a lot of details with his stay and the nursing care he received (“The 32 Differences”). However, in the movie we only see Pi telling the Japanese insurance investigators his stories, at the film’s close. Very few details other than what the audience can infer from his appearance. The change leaves more room for suspense for Pi’s story and leaves out less important and mostly boring details out and brings the focus back to Pi’s two stories, on with a tiger and one with his
The story of Rikki-tikki by Rudyard Kipling is a great one, so great that there is a movie made after the book. The Movie follows the story of the book, but there are differences. The differences are very small, and don’t change the story’s theme. There are more similarities between the story and the movie them there are differences, however.
Overall, the movie and book have many differences and similarities, some more important than others. The story still is clear without many scenes from the book, but the movie would have more thought in it.

It was mentioned he was trying to escape society as a whole and find himself and happiness. Both the book and the film follow a pretty consistent plot that correlate with each other, both making it evident that Chris was a polarizing subject. So, why does the book portray Chis McCandles as a charismatic, outgoing, well-educated nice kid, as where the movie portrays him more as foolish, immature, unprepared boy biting off more than he can chew? It all depends on your interpretation of both sources within the given information. Yann Martel was born on June 25, 1963, in Salamanca, Spain. His parents, Emile Martel and Nicole Perron, were both born in Canada. He spent his childhood in several different countries, including France, Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica. As an adult, he lived in many other places but one of them was India, which may be where he got inspiration for writing “Life of Pi”. Yann Martel uses the literary elements similes and foreshadowing, to express the theme that believing in religion can give you the faith to want to survive.
In the novel Big Fish by Daniel Wallace, we are told the story of Edward Bloom, a man of many adventures, who is somewhat of a myth. Big Fish is a collection of the tall tales Edward tells his son about his life, and also of the effect his tales had on his son. The novel comes from an American author from Alabama, while the movie comes from Hollywood and is directed by Tim Burton, who is also American. This story is not an ancient sacred text, so the story’s function(s) is to entertain and to make money.
In conclusion, this is why I believe the book “Life of PI” is a story about a hero’s journey in the book. Pi is thrown into the situation without doing anything wrong. Pi doesn’t deserve this, infact he is a bright and smart kid as mentioned in earlier pages from the book. You want Pi to live, mainly because Pi doesn’t deserve to die. It has always been said that books are better than their movies. Books give you more descriptive information of the plot. In other words, a book can give you an open imagination than the movie. Anyway, the book has many important elements, while the movie only focuses on one thing. The book Spare Parts contains a chapter per character in where it contains a biography about them, focuses on immigration, and talks somewhat about race and wealth, while the movie only focuses in assembling a water robotic out of spare parts with a low budget, and winning against colleges.

Piscine (Pi) Patel is both the protagonist and the narrator of Martell’s religious eye-opener who undergoes a chain effect of unbelievable catastrophes. Each of these catastrophic events leaving him religiously stronger because he knows that in order to endure what he has endured, there has got to be a God somewhere.

When it comes to Life of Pi, there is hardly any difference between life and story, so how could the novel not mimic life, being the story of a life itself? Duality reoccurs over the course of the novel through every aspect of Pi’s world view and is particularly seen in the two contradictory stories, which displays the brutal nature of the world. Martel wonderfully crafts and image of duality and skepticism though each story incorporated in this novel.

Choices play a prominent role in ensuring comfort and happiness in life. People make choices, which ultimately shape their lives. In Yann Martel’s The Life of Pi, the main character, Pi Patel is forced to make choices, which go against his morals, but ultimately keep him alive. This becomes clear when Pi chooses to change his person by eating meat. Pi then chooses to eliminate all personal boundaries, due to his incredible will to survive. Finally, he chooses to view all of the people on the life boat as animals in order to cope with the psychological distress of being lost at sea. When faced with choices, Pi puts all morals behind him to survive.
...ut how I compared myself to this book. I am a very religious person, much like Pi. I am very protective of others, much like the tiger. I feel that I connect extremely well with these characters. Pi's devotion to God has rekindles some of what I feel I was losing. I felt that I was losing faith. I am going through one of the hardest years of my life, but it doesn't even compare to what Pi went through. However, Pi's faith remains unshaken. This is a beautiful example to me that has allowed me to realize that I must put my trust back in God. This is one of the deepest realizations I have had in a long time, and hopefully, I will be able to carry this example with me for the rest of my life. The Life of Pi was an amazing book that a variety of people can connect to. It will cause deep insights that will allow one to look deeper into the world and into one's own soul.
