Recommended: Effects of rape on individuals

Your mother, your sister, your aunt, your daughter, and your wife are the target victims of rapist. There are no particular people who are not in danger of being raped. The reasons why rape suspects if found guilty, deserve the harshest punishment that the law allows because rape ruins a person’s life. For instance, in the articles “Thanks for Ruining My Life” and “Dead California Teen’s Family Sue Suspects in Sexual Assault Case,’ the victim express depression and deep emotional scars which were dug deeper by the court system not believing the victim. The crime of rape becomes a greater injustice when the victim is looked at as a non-victim. The suspects, in most instances, are given the benefit of the doubt. When a rape test is administered, and intercourse is established, the testimonial of the victim should be given more consideration than what is given because it is a serious crime just like murder. I believe that when the suspect is found guilty, the rapist should receive life in prison or a punishment that matches the crime.
The actual act of rape by definition of law is the penetration by the perpetrator against one’s will. Rape is a physical and emotional crime which leaves un-curable scars. When a male sexually abuses a female he may not fully understand or care about the emotional toll placed on her life forever. Her outlook on life may change and she may feel that she is all alone. There are a lot of different disorders that rape victims come in contact with but one sticks out more than the others. One serious disorder that “1/3 of all rape victims will experience sometime in their life is PTSD” (Kilpatrick).
