Is it possible to give up everything you have grown to count on in life for the sake of Christ? This is a question that usually has a very simple answer when placed against biblical text. That answer is a resounding yes! After all, when you look at the patriarchs and prophets of the Old Testament, and the disciples of the New Testament, the examples of people giving everything to serve the Most High God are to numerous to list here. However, I have found this is easier to conceptualize then to put into motion in one’s own life. Counting the costs on what one must truly give up to be a slave to Christ can become a freighting occurrence.

I believe this is meant to shake a person’s perception of reality in order to make them realize the error of their way. For Jonah, this came in the form of a big fish that swallowed him up until he realized that it is pointless to run from God. For me, it came in the form of a terrifying spiritual breakdown after a multitude of sins made me understand that my path, at the time, was leading to destruction. I believe that is what Paul was talking about in 1 Corinthians 5:5 when he ordered a man to be handed over to Satan. In the end, a few things stood out that helped me make the right choice. For one, it was the realization that it wouldn’t be fifteen years wasted in a career I would no longer have. It would be fifteen years of spiritual training for what God had planned for me in the ministry. Second, the time spent watching my father deal with all the problems that come with church work was likened to that of an apprentice. Harriet Tubman made over a dozen trips to the South to help free slaves. Moche’ from the novel Night, went back to his home to warn his friends and family about what was about to happen to them. However, Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice. How much do people sacrifice? These people risk their lives, freedom, and safety. Not everyone is a selfish person, people like to help other people. That’s just humanity.
In The Sinners in the hands of an angry God, Jonathan Edwards main goal was to make the audience repent. He spoke of God’s wrath and how far away from the path the audience was. Vivid imagery in this includes, “You hang by a slender thread, with the flames of divine wrath flashing about it(69-70 pg 124)”. Edwards also spoke of God’s forgiveness and how the audience must turn away from the dark path and walk into the light to be saved. This scared many people, like people say the truth hurts. Good Deeds then gets called upon. They say that even though they want to go on the journey, they are unable to at the moment. They advise Everyman to speak to Knowledge. Knowledge is the one that brings Everyman on the journey to cleanse himself. They first go to Confession, which gives him a penance.
I grew up in a home with a family that attend church weekly and was active in the church family. I knew about God and about His son but I never remember the story of salvation and the personal need for a savoir. As a teenager I walked away from the religion that I thought did not offer my anything. In my thirties, my husband was diagnosed with cancer and I immediately started my negotiations with God. Little did I know that He was not a negotiator but it was during this time in my life that I needed God more than He needed me. Since accepting the gift of God’s love, the salvation of a Savoir, and the renovation of my heart, I look to God for the path of my life. I share Gods truth through my career change to a Christian nob-profit that’s vision is to share God’s love to the community through the platform of pregnancy care and family services. Personally I have fulfilled God’s call to help the less fortunate by adopting a sibling group and participating and supporting mission trips to third world countries to support his children and missions there. My final piece of God’s plan I feel lead to complete is to volunteer my professional expertise and finances to work with a mission group that provides laboratory services to third world mission hospitals. Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
There are so many things I want to do differently. I want to work again and contribute. I want to show my children how to contribute to the growth of our Faith, our family and our community. I want to help others to come to a realization there is more to this world; that Jesus loves them. Then, there’s the need to prove my ability to finish a degree and get an education that will lead me back the work force.
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
I have made the decision to allow God to take the lead as I devote my life to answering His call. I do not take this decision lightly, “It deals with eternal matters: The Word of God and the souls of men and women” (Drury 8). The ministry deals with the everlasting decisions of the heart and weighs those decisions of the individual based on the Word of God. I currently serve as an Intern Associate Pastor, Secretary of the Administrative Board, and Adult Sunday School teacher at the Payette United Methodist Church. Within this realm, I help develop the body of Christ to reach the community, realize the value of relationships, understand the importance of their role within the church, their individual gifts, grasp a better understanding of the Word of God, and develop a closer relationship with God and His people. The phrase God has been using to deal with me on how to work in Payette and work on myself is: “I am not to be an island unto myself, we are not an island unto ourselves.” This phrase focuses on the importance of lasting relationships; none of us made it where we are by ourselves. It was fun to attend the International Festival Spring 2014 program, because I was excited and enjoyed with different culture groups. According to the International students present their culture symbols, food and country presentations, I learned about Saudi, Turkish, African, Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese and Latin American cultures. It was cultural exchange giving me opportunities to learn and understand other’s cultures. Also, this exchange takes place between two or more different countries, who is trying to promote the same, it helped me more easily to adapt different countries cultures and make friend with them. The cultural exchange has the important role to promote mutual understanding. It was decreased the culture distance with other culture groups, and helps us balance the cultural conflict of different cultural values and beliefs clash between different countries.
Throughout my four years at Worland High School, I have taken a number of classes; some more difficult than others, some I just took merely to boost up my GPA. However, there are some classes that I knew I wanted to steer clear from such as any culinary arts or home living classes, which probably would have benefited me more than I thought. I also stayed away from any art or music class; my fine arts skills are not quite up to par, and I had no desire in strengthening them. The classes that everyone wants to stay away from but are forced to take anyway would be the core classes: science, math, history, and language arts. In the history of Israel and the Church, there were many key historical moments that affected the way the Israelites interacted in their faith and the way the Church was shaped. In the early church, Gentiles wanted to become baptized and follow the example of Christ and become Christians. The process for becoming Christians was made more difficult because Jews saw themselves as the original Christians because Christ himself was a Jew. The Jewish people had two essential problems with Gentiles simply getting baptized and joining the faith; the first was that all Jews were circumcised but the Gentiles were not, and the second is that Jews had to adhere to particular dietary restrictions which were not eating animals that they considered unclean
This biography as demonstrated that I am thinking critically, and that I am applying theory to practice. It also demonstrated that I am preparing myself for the real fieldwork after graduation, and I am also open to learn new information and adapt to any unchangeable environment I find myself. Having created this biography, I have learned to focus on the clients’ abilities (strengths) as suppose to their disabilities. Further, I realized that they have much potential than people would imagine.
When one looks at their life, at any stage in which they live, it is pivotal to see clearly how they are finding meaning, purpose and direction within their daily decisions. As I’ve learned to value the role of community and covenant relationships in my life, it has been a challenge to continually commit myself to overcoming my flesh and correctly align myself with God’s intentions for my life. As part of this transformative process in centering my worldview on Christ’s love, I’ve concluded that all of life’s ultimate questions are found to have been correctly answered in the Bible; repeatedly in Scripture, and specifically in one verse, I have found that it sources everything in life to the glory of God. Romans 11:36 centers our attention on Christ, from whom we derive all answers to origins, meaning, morality, destiny and identity for our lives: “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen. (ESV).” Not only does the most credible book ever written support this thesis, but in “Making Sense of your World,” it is strongly communicated that “God alone is the ultimate reality and everything else is derived from him (Phillips, Brown, Stonestreet, 2008, p. 44).”
