Lies become a part of human life since they was born. Many lies to protect themselve, their loves one, and grant friendship. Others, achieve what they desire through lies. Have you ever wonder what this world would become with only honesty? I cant imagine that. People wouldnt be different. The world is full of differences part of it because of lies. Kids learn everything through their parent, friends, and even strangers, some of what they learn is bad but other is useful in life. The statement lying is okay when used to protect or cares for others is agreeable. Being honest is good but sometimes you need to lies in order for it to become better.
There are times when lies are necessary, whether it is to avoid hurting feelings, or keeping a secret. People lie in order to protect other feeling and at the same time keeping friendship as well as relationships. Gray wrote in the article "And the couple who leave early, saying the baby-sister has a curfew, would not be thanked by the hostess if the truth were told; "Frankly, we're both bored to tears." No one could bring themselves to confess, the bold truth can be hurtful so we couldnt expect them or ourself to agree truthfulness is always right . .....
Have you ever been in a life or death situation? For example, Gray wrote"Anne Frank survived as long as she did because those sheltering her and her family lied to the Nazis." It a matter of life and death for both families, either they decide to reveal the truth or not. However, they choose to lie to the Nazis in order to save Anne Frank and her family. Lying could rescue people and including yourself, from troubles. Not all lies are good though, some could become worse to the point accusing someone to protect yourself. Moreover, lies...

...s never the right thing," because everyone lies ! I lie, you Lie, we all lie!
Above all, desire, friendship, and trust are receive through lies. This world wouldnt be the what it is without lies and liars. Parent, friends, and strangers are the one who we learn from the most, they teach us many postive and negative thing throughout life. In my opinion it is okay to lies but only in a situation you feel like you should. the truth gains no-one and the lie benefits people - so long as it is a little thing - lying can be ok.Sometimes we mold the truth to make it easier for the person we are speaking to to hear. Sometimes they don't need that and they need the truth to help them deal with an issue. It's a hard choice but we should always be as honest as we can. However, we need to always be completely honest with the most important person in our lives...ourselves.
In society, some people are looked at as liars or “bullshitters,” as stated in the article, “Is Lying Bad for Us?” Honesty is not always the best policy, and in certain situations, liars are best not to tell the truth when protecting the innocent, or protecting oneself. Because of this, lying should be looked at as a standard in society and something that people recognize in every day life.
Lying is never the better option to take, as shown in the book, The Memory Keeper’s Daughter. When you lie you destroy relationships with the people you love, some of which relationships can never be made whole again and you will have to live life with your
Richard Gunderman asks the question, "Isn 't there something inherently wrong with lying, and “in his article” Is Lying Bad for Us?" Similarly, Stephanie Ericsson states, "Sure I lie, but it doesn 't hurt anything. Or does it?" in her essay, "The Ways We Lie.” Both Gunderman and Ericsson hold strong opinions in regards to lying and they appeal to their audience by incorporating personal experiences as well as references to answer the questions that so many long to confirm.
Lying is bad but the fear that can come from it is worse. Fear can rule a person which drives them to extreme and irrational acts that can shape society in a negative way. We as people are so accustomed to how we should act that during times of fear and crisis our vision is blurred and sometimes our decision making abilities are impaired. We often look past at how much fear can affect us and our society. Starting from Salem 1692 and going to the McCarthy era fear ruled the people and even now in present time America we are constantly living in fear.
Although it is considered wrong to tell lies, it seems that literature has offered us situations where telling lies isn’t necessarily bad. Of course, lying often has a tragic outcome, but not always for the person or people who told the lie or lies. Oftentimes, these unfortunate outcomes are directed at the person about whom the lie was told. Furthermore, these stories have explained that dishonesty can result in success for both the liar and the target. Maybe we have been teaching the wrong values to our children.
Stephanie Ericsson’s The Ways We Lie, analyzes and reflects on how lying has simply become the norm in our society. We all lie, there is not one person in the world that does not lie. Most people lie because they are afraid of telling the truth, however what they do not know is telling a lie can lead them in the wrong direction because many things can happen when lying to a person. The person can find out when everything unravels that person will not have trust in you and you would be known as a liar. To every action there is a consequence, so why not deal with just one consequence when telling the
The society we live in can either lead us to a complicated relationship with the truth or be easy going. The problem with constantly telling lies is that it starts off with one, then leads to another until everything you say is a lie. Being truthful can be beneficial to anyone, and people will follow the example of being honest. People know it is easier to tell lies than face the truth because they are either doing it for money, or protection for themselves, people they love, or relationships. It was discovered by Nick that his whole family wasn’t dead because at Gatsby’s funeral he met Gatsby’s father.
Lying is an issue that has been debated on for a long time. Some people believe that lying is sometimes ok in certain circumstances. Some people believe lying is always acceptable. In contrast, some believe lying is always bad. Keeping all other’s opinions in mind, I believe that lying is a deficient way of solving problems and is a bad thing. I claim that only certain situations allow the usage of lies and that otherwise, lying is bad. Dishonesty is bad because it makes it harder to serve justice, harms the liar individually, and messes up records. Furthermore, it should only be said to protect someone from grave danger.
People are always cautious when it comes to the fine line between deception and the truth. Throughout our lives we are told not to deceive anyone otherwise we would eventually lose them due to our deviousness. However, the same could be said about telling someone the truth. How often can we find someone who has honestly never deceived or lied to someone in their life even if it was unintentional? Why is it wrong to deceive someone? What if they are better off hearing a lie from your lips instead of the cold, hard, and brutal truth? Or what if they are in danger of harming themselves and you need to tell someone, but don’t inform the person in danger that ...
This cannot be said about the lies that are told to further ones career, influence others for personal gain, or to evade consequences of negative behaviors, etc. This type of lie appears to benefit the teller, and are often harmful to those that tell them and those that receive them. As a society, we condemn this type of untruth or falsehood, and deem the person that participates in such as untrustworthy and deceitful. In our society, we take great pride in being known as honest, and even our first president, George Washington, is quoted as saying "I cannot tell a lie", when questioned about cutting down his father’s cherry tree. But one has to question if this was completely true and fact. Did at any time he talk to his children about Santa, or did he ever say his wife looked beautiful, when in fact, he may have thought the attire she adorned herself with was anything
We lie all the time, lying is not something new to our culture. We lie to our parents, we lie to our friends, we even lie to our significant other, but why do we do it? There is not one set reason on why we lie but they can vary from an insignificant reason to something more nefarious. A good operational definition of a lie is “A lie is a false statement to a person or group made by another person or group who knows it is not the whole truth, intentionally.” (Freitas-Magalhães) We have been raised to know that lying is usually a bad thing, and it’s better to tell the truth, not to mention the circumstances get exponentially worse if you are caught lying. No one wants to be labeled as a liar, or untrustworthy. This may sound unorthodox but I personally think lying is perfectly fine; depending on the situation. If you have a prima-facie duty to be dishonest it’s perfectly acceptable. Ross says a prima facie duty or obligation is an actual duty. “One’s actual duty is what one ought to do all things considered.” (Carson) I’m not the only one who finds this too be true. Ross would also agree with me, He says “Lying is permissible or obligatory when the duty not to lie conflicts with a more important or equal important prima facie duty.” (Carson) As I was doing research on this topic I did read one extremely compelling argument on why we ought not to lie. Aristotle basically said a person who makes a defense for lying could never be trusted. (King.)
Can you remember the last time someone lied to you? Or how about the last time you lied to someone else? Did you ever stop and ask yourself why? There are so many different reasons that a person might lie. Maybe a lie about something to keep oneself out of trouble, or even a lie to impress other people. But either way there are always going to be serious consequences or effects of lying.
Secondly, it is okay to be untruthful if you are trying to protect people. In certain situations, it is safer, and more practical for you to tell a lie rather than putting a loved one in jeopardy. To illustrate you may be in a situation where you are in a serious or dangerous situation, and you do not what anyone else involved, to keep them safe. For example, if you are getting held up for ransom, would you tell the truth to a loved one and get them involved, or lie and keep them safe? The obvious answer is to keep them safe at all costs, even if it means lying. Also, you do not want to put someone in harm’s way, so it would be ...
"Honesty is the best policy," is a phrase many people still hear regularly. Most people tell their first lie when they are kids. Telling a lie is an exceptionally strange propensity because naturally everyone knows how to tell one. Mass numbers of individuals lie for various reasons that include the need to provide self-protection, the lie is oblivious to the liar, and to enhance another's feelings.
Telling the truth teaches one person self- respect for themselves and others as well. Telling the truth also sets a good example for others to do the same thing and make a “chain reaction”. People can make a “chain reaction” by passing on what they have done from one person to another, and before you know it, everyone is changing greatly, and the world is progressing tremendously. Lies are told all around the world, and they are told every day. One lie can often lead to another lie and cause you to be caught up in one big lie that will be hard to get out of if people do not tell the truth. If a person thinks that is okay to lie, they better think again, the truth always comes out no matter how hard a person tries to keep it in, or how much someone thinks that they can get away with lying. No person can keep in or hold a grudge with what they have done. After all, telling the truth is the right thing to do, and everyone should do it. Telling the truth is always much easier than the trouble of a
