Education— or rather, the act of being educated— can take a wide variety of forms; the term education in itself is very broad and nonspecific. People learn new things every day whether they are conscious of it or not, which begs the question “what constitutes an education?” Higher education, for example, typically consists of being affiliated with some institution such as a university, or a lone college. Such educations may also follow the liberal arts methodology, depending on the values of the institution that is being attended. A liberal arts education, as opposed to some more straight forward methods of education such as STEM, allows for far more freedom of choice in your education—in fact, a broad education is encouraged at such institutions. Liberal Education is an approach to learning that empowers individuals and prepares them to deal with complexity, diversity, and change. It provides students with broad knowledge of the wider world (e.g. science, culture, and society) as well as in-depth study in a specific area of interest (McCuen). Such a definition implies that a liberal arts education also provides real-world skills in that it supports complexity, diversity, and change—something which very well may be missed in more constrictive and systematic methods of education which limit courses a student may take to a single, or otherwise limited, area of study. While good for that specific area of study, students which follow that discipline have may have a far less versatile set of skills in comparison to a student educated following a liberal arts
