Li Po can be described in many ways. Some of which are good and in other ways, not so much. For example, Li Po was exiled from China, which was his where his heritage has been. Also, he was a drunk, who seemed to have caused many problems with his then in-laws. At the same time was married four different times to four different women. His life was during the time of the Tang Dynasty, living from 701-762, which made his sixty-one years of age when he passed. Although all of these flaws seemed to disappear when scholars and professors teach his poetry. His influence on poetry is beyond great and will be remembered for many generations to come. Li Po is known for, ironically enough, his beauty of nature, love and romance. Even while writings …show more content…
For example, “Amongst the flowers”, “Then I dance” “I too must be happy”, “I hope that one day we three will meet again” (Li Hunter). A strong case can easily be made that these other themes could in fact be the main one throughout this particular poem. Main point being though, is that it is possible to have more than one theme in poetry, particularly in Li Po’s poetry and could be interpreted in many other ways than one. It is imperative to keep an open mind while reading poetry and criticizing any opinions the reader may have about the poem. Autumn River Song, is a beautiful, yet very short poem. It being only four stanzas long but captures what poetry is all about. Though it may be short the poem is very affective to how the reader may interpret it. “The moon simmers in green water. White herons fly through the moonlight. The young man hears a girl gathering water-chestnuts: into the night, singing, they paddle home together” (Li Po). Now, after not knowing too much about the white herons, research was crucial to help me as a scholar to interpret this …show more content…
Here are some of the research founded on what many have said about Li Po, “This is what makes Li Po one of the celebrated poets of Chinese history” (GK Fralin). Another example may be, “the God dismissed from the heaven” (He Zhizhang). As one can see, this proves that despite his excessive drinking, or bad relations with some people of his time, from a pure song writer and poet, it seems magical to many while reading and interpreting his work. Which finalizes his enthusiasm and beautiful nature while writing this poetry before he passed and
Li-Young Lee’s poem, A Story, explores a complex relationship between a father and his five year old son. Although the poem’s purpose is to elaborate on the complexity of the relationship and the father’s fear of disappointing his son, the main conflict that the father is faced with is not uncommon among parents. Lee is able to successfully portray the father’s paranoia and son’s innocence through the use of alternating point of view, stanza structure, and Biblical symbolism.
As you can see, upon looking at both pieces of writing from a different angle, there is always the opportunity for different interpretations. It is certain that a deeper analysis will give even more possible themes and common topics. Now that you have seen how each of these can be read in more than one way, hopefully you can read other pieces of poetry, attain different meanings for them and have greater love and knowledge for poetry in general.
Many have enjoyed the poetry of Li-Young Lee and his books of poetry have won many awards. So what makes his poetry so different? What makes his poetry so unique? Lees' definition of poetry would be that poetry is the inner voice written on paper. It is all ones experiences, memories and inner thoughts that make us individuals and interesting to one another and by writing them down for others to experience, is poetry. Lees' poetry takes on its own unique style as most poetry does for each individual poet. This overall style is the due to the combination of subject, tone and texture in Lees' poetry.
For each seasonal section, there is a progression from beginning to end within the season. Each season is compiled in a progressive nature with poetry describing the beginning of a season coming before poetry for the end of the season. This is clear for spring, which starts with, “fallen snow [that] lingers on” and concludes with a poet lamenting that “spring should take its leave” (McCullough 14, 39). The imagery progresses from the end of winter, with snow still lingering around to when the signs of spring are disappearing. Although each poem alone does not show much in terms of the time of the year, when put into the context of other poems a timeline emerges from one season to the next. Each poem is linked to another poem when it comes to the entire anthology. By having each poem put into the context of another, a sense of organization emerges within each section. Every poem contributes to the meaning of a group of poems. The images used are meant to evoke a specific point in each season from the snow to the blossoms to the falling of the blossoms. Since each poem stands alone and has no true plot they lack the significance than if they were put into th...

Du Fu, a poet of the Tang dynasty also known as Tu Fu. Du Fu is consider to be one of the greatest Chinese poets in Chinese history as “readers of many different periods and types have considered Du Fu to be the greatest poet of the Chinese tradition” (Owen 413). After Du Fu ambitions failed for a government
During the Tang Dynasty, Li Po and Tu Fu have reigned the literary world with their poetry. Their writing techniques and themes in their poetry allow them to stand out amongst other poets at the time. With the unique aspects and images these poets write about, they distinguish the similarities between themselves and contain different intensities in their poetry. While Li Po has a more relaxed tone to his poetry, Tu Fu deals with the serious aspects of life such as war, poverty, and suffering.

...for another man, and he still loved her with all his heart, that shows how much passion he had in his life. He transferred this passion throughout all of his work. This passion in my opinion is what made his poems as good as they are. Without that passion, and how devoted he gets to people and things, he never would have been as successful of a poet as he was, and still is to this day.
The overall themes of this poem are beauty, love, and destiny. The speaker constantly discusses beautiful things and how they can help us. Love can be felt throughout the entire poem. In the first stanza, the speaker verbalizes how he “came with love of the race.” He also expresses love for the beautiful things around him. The theme destiny can be seen in the third stanza when the speaker talks about staying on course. It can also be identified in the last stanza when he describes something inevitable that was about to
These poems are not as complex when compared to other poems, and with that being said they do not take an abundance of inference to determine the theme of the poem. Because they are not as complex as others all 3 of these poems are capable of being paraphrased to better understand the main idea of the poem. When putting the poem into different words, one can
The supposed author of the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu, is said to be the father of Taoism. It is estimated that Lao Tzu, spelled many other ways including Lao-tsu, Lao Tse, and Lao Tzi, was born under the name of Li Erh in Honan, China, around 604 B.C.E. Myth says that Lao Tzu was born fully developed with a long, white beard and hair the color of snow. He was somewhat of a recluse and withdrew from society to avoid governmental law and rule. He retreated to the Western frontier after the fall of the Zhou dynasty to continue his personal study of metaphysics and philosophy (Taoism 2). The collaborations of his studies and observations are said to be the basis of the Tao Te Ching, although some scholars argue that Lao Tzu’s existence cannot be proved and that the scholar Chuang-tzu played at least a partial role in the authorship. However the Tao Te Ching came to be, it is prized for being the foundation of Taoist belief and should hold merit as a universal guide, not as an author’s accomplishment (De Bary, Chan, and Watson 49).
We get the idea that the poem starts out in the fall, "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood" (5). The season fall represents the year coming to an end, and e...
