The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a short film about a particular town that is very sleepy; in other words, the town is very “dreamy.” This film is a depiction of the social instability during the time of the Market Revolution. Basically, the film shows that the town of sleepy hollow lacks a class structure within their society and shows the selfishness of the members that are just trying to make life good for themselves.
Ichabod Crane is the main character of this story. He is the town’s new schoolteacher and is a tall and lanky man. Ichabod likes to use his charm and do good deeds to manipulate those around the town. While the town is singing about him, his face is indulged in a book while he does good deeds for different people and if you notice, he steals food from different people without anyone noticing. For example, Ichabod would treat the students that he knew of their mothers good cooking, better than the rest of the students, just so he could manipulate the moms into making him dinner. Soon after Ichabod is introduced, the story brings about Katrina Van Tassel, which is the most beautiful girl in the town as well as her father is a wealthy farmer. These two statements go hand in hand, because they perfectly describe the town of sleepy hollow. They live in an imaginative world where everything is perfect, but actually there is a lot of corruption going on within. The members create a higher class of people that are good looking and strong and if you weren’t you catered to the ones that were. In the end this story was about a town that were consumed in themselves and they got rid of things that did not go with their
