Somatic (Adult) Stem Cells are stem cells that come from the human body. These stem cells are found in “many organs and tissues, including the brain, bone marrow, peripheral blood, blood vessels, skeletal muscle, skin, teeth, heart, gut, liver, ovarian epithelium, and testes” (“Stem Cell Basics”, 9). Adult stem cells can be found in what is called a “stem cell niche”, which is a specific area of each tissue as stated by the National Institutes of health (NIH) (“Stem Cell basics”, 9).
