Queen Victoria & Prince Albert were born May 24, 1819 and August 26, 1819. Prince Albert was Queen Victoria’s husband. Albert was devoted to helping his wife serve as monarch and over time he became an essential aid to the queen that advised her on political and diplomatic affairs. Their marriage was very happy and they loved each other and being together. They were portrayed as an ideal family. Albert tragically died in 1861, at the age of 42. For many years after his death Victoria lived in isolation, and eventually appeared more in public, but continued to wear black, mourning his death for the rest of her life. Queen Victoria died many years later on January 22, 1901. Victoria Adelaide Mary Louise, Princess Royal was their first child and born on November 21, 1840. She married Frederick Wilhelm of Prussia. Frederick became emperor of Germany, but died three months after. Their eldest son became Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany. Their daughter, Sophie married a Greek prince and later became Queen of Greece. Victoria had eight children in total. She died on August 5, 1901, months after her mother died. Albert Edward, Prince of Wales or later known as Edward VII was born on November 9, 1841. He was the oldest son of Queen Victoria. He married Princess Alexandra of Denmark and had six children. Of their three sons, two predeceased him and the other one became King George V of Great Britain. Of their three daughters, one married a king, one married a commoner, and one stayed single. Edward VII died on May 6, 1910. Alice Maud Mary was born on April 25, 1843. She married Prince Louis of Hesse and became Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine when her husband succeeded his uncle as Grand Duke. When researching daily life in the Elizabethan Era, there were two prominent social classes throughout most of England. The upper or noble class families were akin to today’s upper class. However, the low-class families were much different from today’s low-class families. The gap between the two classes was so huge and a majority of England was impecunious. Most of the low class was orphans, abandoned wives, widows, the infirm, and the elderly. Each class, even the ones in the middle would despise anyone in a class lower than their own (Forgeng 21). Due to a lack of education, an overload of household responsibilities, and a lack of social acceptance, low-class Elizabethan English children were unable to flourish.

Emperor Charles IV (aka Emperor Karl I) of Austria was born on August 17th, 1887 in Persenbeug Castle, Austria. Karl was the grand-nephew of the man he succeeded who was Emperor Franz Josef I. Emperor Franz Josef did have a son who was Archduke Franz Ferdinand. His son however, met an untimely demise leaving only Karl as the next successor. Karl married Zita of Burbon-Parma whom he was wed to until his death. Karl was originally an active member of the Austrian military until the death of Franz Josef I in 1916. He was the last Emperor of Austria and King of Hungry, reigning from November 21st, 1916 through the collapse of the empire in 1918. After the collapse of the empire during World War I, Karl dedicated the remainder of his lit to attempting to restore the monarchy.

Queen Emma was very loved by the ancient Hawaiian people during her reign. During the 19th century, ancient Hawaiians lacked health, education, and spirituality facilities. It was at this time that the Hawaiian's population was decreasing dramatically due to the diseases of smallpox and measles which were brought by the foreigners. There were no hospitals, for many of the Hawaiians believed in traditional healing and practices. Not only that, but schooling was only offered to Hawaiian boys. Because of this, the girls could never get an education. The Hawaiians knew nothing but their own religion and beliefs. But all this changed once Queen Emma reigned. Queen Emma advanced health, education, and spirituality for people during the 19th century.
Alice Walker was born on February 9, 1944 in Eatonton, Georgia, which is considered to be a rural town where most black workers work as lessee farmers. She was the eighth and the last child of Minnie Tallulah Grant Walker and Willie Lee Walker. Her parents were poor sharecroppers. In the summer of 1952 at the age of eight, she fell into a depression when her older brother accidentally shot her with a BB gun, causing her to lose one sight of her eye. She later started to hide herself from the other kids in her neighborhood.

King Henry VIII, born as Henry Tudor VIII, was born on June 28, 1491 in Greenwich, England. He was born to father King Henry Tudor VII and mother Elizabeth of York. Henry had 2 siblings growing up, one brother, Arthur, and one sister, Elizabeth. Both of his siblings died at a young age. When his older brother died, his father started to approve of Henry. When his father died in 1509, Henry Tudor VIII became King Henry VIII (“Young Henry VIII”).
The Victorian Era was a time of social evolution as well as technological and economic advance. A distinct, unique middle class was formed alongside the traditional working class and wealthy aristocracy. However, there were certain individuals that fell outside this model of Victorian society. The “abandoned child” was society’s scapegoat- a person without a past, without connections, without status. They could appear in any class, at any time. The upper and middle classes often had a somewhat romantic perception of them, due to their prevalence in Victorian literature. Novels like Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights made heroines/heroes out of orphans, portraying them as respectable yet troubled (Cunningham,“Orphan Texts”). However, orphans were also often treated with disdain and distrust, due to their reputation as “criminally prone” individuals. They were a victim of classic “Victorian contradictions” that characterized most aspects of Victorian society.
Born in Eatonton, Georgia, in 1944 Alice Walker was last of her eight siblings. As far as becoming author, Alice walker herself was faced with many struggles throughout her life. After a childhood accident blinded her in one eye, she went on to become valedictorian of her local school, and attend Spelman College and Sarah Lawrence College on scholarships, graduating in 1965(Janet Witalec). Her biggest turning point/ motivation was an author named Zora Neale Hurston, who made a great influence on Walkers later life. Later in her life she edited one of her fiction called “ I love myself when I am laughing”(Janet Witalec).
