If philosophy takes part in any position in the world, it is the judgement of our action in which rectify our fault (Arneson, n.d). Lebanon or Lebanese Republic is the country located in the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea (CIA, 2013). The country is surrounded by two belligerent neighbors which are Israel and Syria. Many of the events in Lebanon result in the country having a strained relationship with its neighbors. In addition, in terms of economic problems, Lebanon also has been facing numerous problems due to investment, banking, lower GDP, tourist and agricultural sectors. Some believe that Lebanon will overcome these problems in the future. However, the crisis in Lebanon regarding the hostile relations with neighbouring countries results in the occurrence of poor living standard since this initial situation vastly pervade to inevitable economic crisis in Lebanon.

Jared Diamond, the author of Collapse: How societies choose to fail or succeed, has introduced the five major frameworks on the subject of possibility leading countries to collapse, human impacts on the environment and climate change, declining relations with friendly neighbors, relations with hostile societies and societies’ responses to their problems. Lebanon has been facing two main problems which are related to Diamond’s frameworks, relations with hostile society and societies’ responses to their problems. In terms of the environmental crisis, Lebanon has been facing numerous problems concerning to the environmental damage since the ongoing conflicts with Israel and Syria. Jared Diamond hopes to catch as many peoples attention as he can; the name alone, “Collapse”, makes him appear to be an alarmist looking for attention. He has just cause though for blowing the whistle on society. He makes parallels to previous failed societies and to modern societies showing how the practices that we employ are similar to these failed societies. He is suggesting that America, as well as other countries, are headed down the path of ecocide more possible a global ecocide. Through his extensive research and numerous examples he makes it impossible to argue with his thesis. While all of examples seem redundant and like he is over emphasizing the point he does this to show his thoroughness. He also does it to show that he is correct. Diamond does not want to be wrong; he is a major author who gets a lot of attention when he releases a book. People look to discredit Diamond’s work. Due to this he gives ample resources to support this thesis.

His book brought out new ways to approach the study of pre-civil war events. The question whether the Civil War was inevitable or could have been derailed was answered in The Fate of Their Country. Holt places the spotlight on the behaviors Politicians and the many congressional compromises that unintendedly involved the actions of the residents of American. These factors at hand placed the Civil war as inevitable. Most of the politician’s views in The Fate of Their Country were egotistical and shortsighted which left gaps in American’s social future. To consider the subject of why, first we need to understand the contributing causes, America’s great expansion project, the Manifest Destiny the driving factor behind the loss of virtue and political discord.
