When I first began the course I thought that every student had their own learning style, and that they learned best when instructed in that particular way. However, while it is true that students have their own preferred learning styles, "… evidence shows they absorb information just as well whether or not they encounter it in their preferred mode" (Paul, 2012, p.1). In fact Slavin, 2015, states that students benefit from receiving information in a variety of ways. There are many different learning styles, and acoording to Gardner 's multiple intelligences theory there are eight different types of intelligences: logical/mathematical, linguistic, musical, naturalist, spatial, bodily/kinesthetic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal (Slavin, 2015). ...I will not ask them, "What is wrong with you?" Instead I will ask them, "What has happened to you?" I will speak kindly and praise the progress that they have made instead of focusing on their test scores and grades. Sometime during the beginning of the school year, I will ask my student to write an essay about a certain topic using specific articles. I will collect and keep those essays till the end of the school year. At the end of the school year, I will ask my students to write the same essay, using the same articles. Then I will have them grade both essays based on a rubric that I will provide. This will show them how much progress they have made throughout the course of the year rather than focusing solely on the grade they earned. I am excited to continue my education in becoming a teacher, and eager to gain any knowledge that my future courses have to offer.
