Learning Style Analysis
Throughout my academic career, I have noticed the different aspects of my learning style and how it has impacted my academic success. It has become harder and harder to use only one learning style while going into college. When the professors having a certain style of teaching, it gives the students little wiggle room to use only one way to learn. With this in mind, I had to adapt to different types of learning styles that best fits the professors I have as well as myself.
My academic success was mainly based off of how well I retained information. Some classes were better than others, and I always wondered why. I figured out later on that it was how I was being taught and how well I was adapting to it. I never truly understood which learning environment was better for me until this activity. In this activity, there were three tests given with numerous questions about different habits I have during studying and class time. After taking all of them, I could finally put a name to my style of learning. Although having characteristics in almost all styles, I was mainly a tactile-kinesthetic learner and an analytical thinker. Unfortunately, not all professors teach the same, forcing the students to adapt to many different forms of learning. Of course everyone cannot be pleased, so the professor has to choose what they think is best. Ideally for me, a classroom that is oriented around a more tactile way of learning would benefit me the most. A professor that tends to use visuals, activities, and examples is what I would need to learn at my best ability. A classroom where the professor engages in the students and making sure they are hands-on is usually where I thrive. I pay attention more and inventively listen to what the professor is saying thus making me be a better student in those particular

The Learning Styles. What's Your Learning Style?
This essay witnesses my personal learning and teaching style and strategy. I aim to set forth the aspects of teaching and learning that I find help me become a better health care professional. Three of the major learning theories are discussed in order to find the skill sets that each bring to the table. By choosing the skills required in a clinical environment we can pick the required strategy accordingly. I believe that a unique combination of the tree theories where each is able to play to its strength and overshadow its weaknesses is the best teaching-learning strategy.
Learning is defined as a permanent change in attitude or behaviour that occurs as a result of repeated experience (Sims & Sims, 1995). Understanding one’s learning style has many advantages as it can help one to identify the learning method or activities that can help to optimise the learning experience. It has been suggested that the importance of one’s learning style has been identified through studies and research on how one can maximise the potential for success and further learning development (Honey & Mumford, 2006). Learning styles are unique to each individual and are developed in childhood (Chase, 2001). We all have different personalities; therefore we all have preferred learning styles that suit us best. The way one learns depends on preference. Some learn by observing, listening and imitating others and draw conclusions from their experience. There are several factors that affect our learning style; for example, background, culture, religion and environment can have a major influence on one’s learning.

While reading Kolb 's Learning Styles Model and Experiential Learning Theory, I have identified myself as an accommodating learner. At first I was somewhat surprised, but the more I read about the learning styles, particularly after I completed Kolb’s Learning Style Inventory it made more sense. I have a very hands-on style, which matches perfectly with my enjoyment of performing tests to find the root cause of behavior that I’m investigating. To determine the best way I learn, I carried out two different learning styles questionnaires online. One may find that they are not always categorised in a specific type rather they may have more than one learning preference. Firstly, the most commonly used Neil Fleming’s VARK model. Fleming believes that there are four different types of learner: Visual, Auditory, Reading/writing and Kinesthetic learners. The second model I tried out was Soloman-Felder Learning Styles and Strategies.

Methods like experiments, field trips or role play are rarely used. Because of that, labs and tutorials are more essential for these learners. Among the methods that can help these learners are by trying to use all the senses in the learning process because the more senses you use the higher recall will be, as you have many clues. In addition, make notes with several examples for each concept and use your own examples, the more personal examples you create, the better you remember. A very important thing to note is that this questionnaire is not designed to predict the ability of someone to make the diagnosis.
Thought out our lives, we are faced with many different learning experiences. Some of these experiences have made a better impact than others. This can be attributed to everyone’s different multiple intelligences or learning styles. A persons learning style is the method though which they gain information about their environment. As a teacher, it is our responsibility to know these styles, so we can reach each of our students and use all of the necessary methods.
Each person has his or her own style of learning. Learning styles include visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. In the questionnaire, I learned that I am very much a visual learner. This reflection will show what I have learned about my unique learning style and how understanding learning styles of the children I teach will be helpful as I become a teacher.
