It is clearly known that the huge unsimilarity tween in-class learning and online learning is the involvement of social network technology. What 's more, Rasmussen College website claims that each type of learning has its both advantages and disadvantages. Firstly, the website considers face-to-face students tend to have more discipline and social interaction, because they will have motivation to complete assignments with the support of campus 's faculty and classmates, and with everyday in-class communication, their communicating skills will automatically improved. On the other hand, those who study online have to be self-motivated in order to pass the course, and by learning through videos or podcasts, they actually can learn independently without any interruption from either their instructors or mates. …show more content…
Traditional Education: The Answer You Never Expected"). I have interviewed three college students about which type of education they 'd prefer, traditional or online education. The first person is Hannah Peasha, who is currently a Business Management student at Shasta College, chose online education as her ideal way to learn because of flexible schedule; otherwise, for face-to-face learning, "if you miss a class, you will miss a lot." But the side story of learning from home or anywhere out of campus is students are easy to cheating or plagiarize, she
al. (2009) states that as more formal education courses are available online, quality and non-completion remain problems. Research shows that active participation online is necessary to a student's success in the online communities. When a student actively participates in discussions, interacts with peers while also interacting with an instructor has a higher rate of success and less likely to drop out of the course. Nagel et. al. (2009) explain that dropout rates for online classes range from “ 20 to 50%, often 10-20% higher than” for equivalent face-to-face course (pg. 38). Reasons like poor connectivity, high cost, personal matters have been reasons for dropouts and low participation in online classes.
Education is important, and everyone can earn it regarding to their gender, age, race, religion, and even to people with disability. It is known that our society values education more than anything else because education is the gate to a better life. With education, the individual will have broad knowledge and skills so that one can get a better job which will lead to a better life. Not only the society encourages us to pursue education, but also the holy books such as the Bible and the Qur’an. For generations, we pursue our education by attending traditional educational institutions or we know them as schools. However, for the last few year, some universities and K-12 schools take the advantage of the Internet to create online courses. There are some free online courses available to everyone which are called the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). Even though there are some pros and cons about online education and MOOC, those are considered ethical based on the consequentialism and utilitarianism theories.
In a K-12 setting, distance learning or traditional learning requires careful planning that must take place in order for the educational process to work for the students. When we look at both forms of education there are still pros and cons to both. Although online learning has made a major impact in the world of education, many people have not accepted this form of education. One of the reason for their concerns is that students cannot get fast answers to their questions about the assignment from the teacher. Another concern is that the students cannot perform effectively in a group collaboration that is taking place online. Also, students may not effectively do their homework from an online program. Lastly, some families do not have the technology at home for online learning.
Education plays a significant role in every one’s future and lives; therefore parents have to ensure that their kids receive proper education. There has always been controversy over which is better: online or traditional classes. While some of the differences between traditional school and online school are the academics, socialization, and structure, the similarities are still evident.
Online education, while offering clear advantages such as supporting a self-paced learning experience by allowing learning on an on-demand basis rather than a strict class schedule, also has significant drawbacks. Students in an online only course may struggle with structure and content without hands-on instruction, which can help motivate students who otherwise may be distracted or have difficulty working independently. The traditional structure of classroom education is effective, but also comes with a set of obstacles, particularly for nontraditional students. The best way to bridge this gap is hybrid education, which combines technology and personal interaction to support efficiency and self-paced learning while keeping students motivated, social, and connected to their professors and their peers through face to face interactions. While this newer learning model is still under investigation, there is evidence to prove that hybrid courses can lead to academic success.
An area of great contrast between the two forms of education regards the student experience. For example, students may enjoy taking tests or listening to lectures in the comfort of their own home. However, this poses a major disadvantage of not being able to ask questions as they naturally arise. An online student may have to wait around for their instructor to respond to an email, whereas being present in a classroom permits questions to be asked and answered on the spot. Another advantage of attending a brick-and-mortar college is having access to classmates for study groups or help with homework. After reading several students opinions on their online classes, I have come to realize the overall expe...
There is good reason for the growth in online learning in college environments. Student populations have diversified since the introduction of the personal computer and internet (O’Malley and McCraw). Students with geographic, job, or other constraints are now able to benefit from a college education because advances in technology have enabled learning for those for whom higher education was previously not within the realm of possibility.
Some students within society need to have online learning to complete college degrees due to their lifestyles. While it is good to have online learning as an option if one chooses, it should not be the only option available to some students. Some may argue that online education is not creating discrimination within the educational environment. Furthermore, some may suggest that online learning is benefiting our students in society. There has been a breakthrough in time and geographical limitations of education via online courses (Ho, 2009).
Today’s generation is like no other. The nation as a whole has completely evolved from past times, with technology being one of the greatest improvements. Traditionally, schooling takes place in a classroom setting, but, with the many modifications in our world’s system, we are able to assimilate more modern means of education, such as online learning. However, with many changes comes differences and requires adjustments. The online learning system has proven to be just as effective as traditional learning, with some minor differences, however, nothing of great significance. A few of those insignificant differences include online learning being convenient, especially for the non-traditional students,
When students are deciding on where to go to college, they have the option of choosing between online classes and the traditional classroom classes. Today, some students are finding it much easier to maintain a job, family and start a college career, all by taking online classes. Although some students still prefer to stick with the traditional classroom classes, they still have the option to take online classes. Both online and the traditional classes will provide the educational requirements needed to obtain a college degree and opportunities in the work field. Although the online classes offer just as much as the traditional classes, they are completely different when it comes to teaching methods, course material and time.
The following article is a study on the effectiveness of online courses and their effectiveness in both teacher-guided assistance and non-guided learning. The author stated the problem of online learning for students, as being the distractions of the internet itself; online shopping, gaming and social networking. While two advantages of online learning includes the convenience of studying at a place of choice and independent work, students are challenged in staying focused or being disciplined enough to continue or even complete their course of studies.
Many people think online education can be more expensive than a traditional school setting. Previous generations did not have the option for online learning experience, so why should we start now? An interesting point about online education is that LeBaron (2010) states, “The largest school in the U.S. is the University of Phoenix Online, with a whopping 380,232 students. That’s over 5x more than the largest public school, Arizona State University, which has 68,064 students” (para. 7). Despite the cost effectiveness, distance education is becoming the educational model of the future.
Education should be one of the most important things in a person’s life. Most people are trying to achieve an education. It is stressful when you are trying to decide what school you want to go to. While debating on whether to attend college or not, many people wonder which education is better online or traditional education. As the cost of education increases a lot of students are choosing online education because its’ flexibility. If you look at it from both point of views you are accomplishing the same thing from both, which is a degree. Some people look at the cost of the school to see if they will go to school there. When you going by means of the cost of how much it will be for the degree you are trying to achieve you have to look at the salary you will be making with the major you are pursuing. Online and traditional education has a lot of similarities and differences.
Over the years it has been seen that education has taken up several forms. With the advent of technology, education has also been integrated with technology. Previously it was seen that education was achieved through written forms of paper with pen or pencil. The use of pen and pencil can be dated back to the Roman Empire. However, with the developing pace the traditional means of attaining education are changing. The introduction of information technology has brought forth a new way of learning through the internet. E-learning is the new form of education introduced by IT which helps people to attain knowledge through the use of their computers. A portal is introduced by the use of information technology which the students are able to access and to take tests. However, this new technology also brings with it other ethical issues of plagiarism and social contact. Online education is an inadequate alternative for traditional, classroom-based teaching for several reasons: there is no interactive communication between the student and the instructor, potential employers do not value online course work, class offerings are limited, instructor feedback to the student might be delayed for days, and group projects are nonexistent.
There are many advantages to online learning, it affects the way people can learn. According to “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students”, “students have a greater willingness to write or work on computational skills”. “They say student like the immediate results of having online learning.” Another advantage is that students can learn at their own pace. With learning at their own pace they will be able to actually know the information well. If, they are in a regular classroom setting they may no...
