My boss at work shows or implements many leadership theories, but I am going to focus on a specific leader theory, which is the servant leadership theory. “Servant leaders have an innate desire to lead others, aspire to do so and are happier with themselves when they are able to do so.” (Schmineke & Miller).

Our textbook defines the servant leader theory as “a leader who has a strong desire to serve and work for the benefit of others.” (McCarthy 324). This theory has many characteristics, but I am going to bring awareness to a few of these characteristics that my boss uses on a daily basis at work. These characteristics are: listening, empathy, healing, self-awareness, commitment to the growth of people, and building community. When a servant leader is talking about building a community they are wanting to “build a community with in their organization or business.” (Mind Tools).
