Authoritative has a high amount of control. This style of leader has a lot of power over team members. They tell their team what they want done and how to do it. A second leadership style is procedural. This style of leader also has a high amount of control and is a rules follower. A procedural leader is more focused on getting the job done and is task oriented over relationship oriented. A transformational leader is a leader that depends on his/her charisma and energy to inspire staff. This style leader has a medium amount of control due to delegating. Transformational leaders are focused on organizing and developing the team. A fourth leadership style is participative style. Individuals that exercise this style of leadership also have medium control of their team. Participative leaders consult with the team during the decision making process but ultimately it is the leader who makes the final decision. The fifth and final leadership style called laissez-faire. This style of leadership has a low amount of control because in this style the team as a collective makes the decisions, though the leader is still held responsible.

There are five modern leadership styles. After taking the How to Find Out Your Style of Leadership assessment we found out that my leadership style is predominately participative. Though I was surprised with the results, I can see and understand that participative is my strongest leadership style. As a participative leader, I take in the team’s ideas, concerns, and opinions and make a final decision. I know I do not know everything and like to bounce off ideas off others.
