Introduction
Leadership according many theories can be defined using differing dimensions, as a trait, a process, an emergence, ascribed leadership etc. I have come to understand leadership as a process which requires certain traits whether innate or learned to carry out responsibilities for the achievement of business or agreed goals. As defined by Pasmore (2009), leadership is a culture (behaviour) which is defined by the collective actions of formal and informal leaders towards achieving the set organizational goals. This implies that leadership is about the leaders themselves and the relationship they share amongst them and their followers.
Leadership Strategy is the processes and actions put in place to review the business strategies and identify areas of need for leadership requirements. In my understanding of Pasmore’s journal, he asserted the following;
a. Leadership strategy stems from business strategies
b. Business strategies determine leadership requirements
c. Leadership strategies are formulated after the key drivers of the business have been identified.
Pasmore suggested that for a business to have the right leaders, it must first of all identify its key drivers. I will give an example with an organization I have worked for. WanEll Enterprise is a Service Delivery organization and to identify the kind of leaders that should be at the helm of affairs of the business, the key business drivers of success were identified as; Sales & Marketing, Customer Experience/Service, Customer Retention and Talent Management & Retention. These key drivers determined the areas where the best leaders were to be developed and what number of leaders, skill set, competencies, collective capabilities they must possess with an understandi...

Leadership is not a position but an action that is undertaken by an individual. Leadership is not just about giving orders, yet it is the action of serving others. According to Robert Townsend, “A leader is not an administrator who loves to run others, but someone who carries water for his people so that they can get on with their jobs” (2013). A good leader will support his or hers employees because a leader is not judged on their own actions, but they are judge on the success of those that they support. In the modern era, we look at business leaders in the same way that historians view military commanders or kings of the past.
Kouzes, J., & Posner, B., (2007). The leadership challenge, (4th ed.). San Francisco, CA: Jossey-
Leadership is a communication process of a leader and individuals in which the leaders behavior or attitude directs individuals towards any goal effectively. It is widely believed that leadership creates the vital link between organizational effectiveness and people’s performance at an organizational level (Avolio, 1999; McGrath and MacMillan, 2000). The effectiveness of an organization depends upon the leader having an effective leadership style in order to effectively reach the goal of the organization; with it being one of the key driving forces for improving a firm’s performance. Scholars suggest that effective leadership behaviors can facilitate the improvement of performance when organizations face problems (McGrath and MacMillan, 2000). To effectively achieve leadership of individuals and organizational outcomes, four theories can be used; Fiedler’s Contingency Model, Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Leadership Model, Vroom & Yetton Participative Leadership Model, and House & Dessler Path-Goal Theory.

Kouzes, J. M., & Posner, B. Z. (2007). The Leadership Challenge (4th ed.). San Francisco, CA:
The leadership effectiveness depends upon the leadership style that is most compatible with the motivational need of the followers (Maslow, 1954).Strategic leadership involves developing strategies and empowering people to put those strategies to work throughout the organization. This includes knowing the firm’s strategic direction, aligning the strategy with the firms culture, communicating and modeling high ethical standards, and when necessary initiating changes. The link between strategy formulation and strategy execution is described as effective strategic leadership. And the exertion of effective strategic leadership isn’t always easy. Leaders have leadership styles that are distinctive of themselves. A style is described as consistent
According Hughes, Beatty, and Dinwoodie’s ( 2014) work on strategy, all areas of an organization need to collaborate with each other to help bring strategy to fruition. They mentioned four elements of leadership strategy. (1) Leadership Drivers of Business Strategy. This is the identification of and the preparing of leaders to implement strategy. Certain skills, abilities and resources need to be in place prior to a strategies’ roll out. When the correct leaders have the proper skill sets are in place coupled with the backing of the organization this may create a dynamic situation. Hughes et al. (2014) describes these as “levers- that if pulled will catapult the organization toward success” (p. 236). (2)Leadership Culture, as mentioned
A leader can be defined as a person who influences a group of people, organization, etc. in to achieving a set out or common goal. The aim of this paper is to identify the different approaches to leadership, but there is no single definition of leadership, as it can mean many different things to many people depending of their profession, environment and leadership style (Mielach, 2012).
Leadership is a process by which an individual influences others to accomplish a mutual objective and most scholars can agree that leadership can be defined as the nature of the influencing process. Leaders carry out this process by applying their leadership attributes, such as beliefs, values, ethics, character, knowledge, and ski...
On the other hand we have the explanation of strategic leadership: Strategic leadership is the process of using well considered tactics to interconnect a vision for a group or one of its parts. Strategic leadership typically manages, motivates and persuades staff to share that same vision, and can be an important tool for implementing change or creating organizational structure within a
First, one must understand the difference between leadership and strategic leadership. In general, leadership focuses on relation between a leader and those that follow; strategic leadership is considered to be more macro-dimensional, because it focuses not only on the relation between the leaders and followers but on the strategic operations simultaneously (Budak & Kar, 2014). Effectiveness of strategic leadership ultimately will further increase business power of competing strategically. Strategic leaders are required to create visions and missions as well as ease progress of

The role of leadership can impact an organization performance in many ways. Excellent leadership can propel a company to the fortune five hundred list. For Example, Harpo Incorporated Oprah Winfrey’s company is a successful business that has made billions of dollars over the years. The business consists of several different entities such as the Oprah Show, Oprah Winfrey Network, and The Dr. Phil Show to name a few. This could not have been accomplished with a weak or uneducated leader. Many years ago I heard her give advice to the Williams Sisters. The a...
