Leadership is not just a title or position. It 's the ability to inspire others to want to listen and follow you. Being a Deckplate Leader is getting out from behind the desk, walking the spaces and getting to know your people. Leadership is having a vision and being able to communicate that vision to our Sailors.

I 've been fortunate enough in my Navy career to have had and continue to have great leaders whom has influenced my leadership style. The most important thing I learned was to take care of your people. You take care of them, and they will take care of you, ultimately getting the mission done the way it was vision. Occasionally there were a few bad leaders on the way, but I was still able to benefit from them by knowing what not to do. With that, I’ve defined my leadership philosophy as simple as this: Know your people, take care of your people.
