In sport, the most common leader is a coach. Other leaders could be the team captain, or if you are in a leadership role in a sport organization that is not necessarily a team. In order to be a good leader, you need to have certain qualities. Your team members will often echo your qualities which is why it is important to be conscientious of your behavior. You must show confidence when working as a leader. It is important to show your team that even when times are tough, you believe that you will be able to make it through. If you want your team to work hard and succeed, they must be committed. Commitment is an important leadership quality because your team with develop a level of trust towards you. If they see that you are able to keep your word and power through difficult tasks, then they will follow your lead and do the same. Having a positive attitude is a way to motivate your team. A positive attitude can make the difference of getting them to put in extra work or not. Finally, the most important quality of a leader is having the ability inspire your team members. You are able to motivated and lead your team members to something great. Inspiration pulls together all of the qualities needed to be a great leader (Prive, 2012).

Team members are given the freedom to decide what needs to be done and when it needs to be done by. This leadership environment is usually most effective when the team members are in multiple locations or there is more than one leader involved. This type of leadership does not give any structure to team members. Laissez-faire leaders are not usually present unless it is required. Team members feel a sense of accomplishment in this environment since they are essentially left to their own devices (Amanchukwu, Stanley, and Ololube, 2015).
The greatest leaders do not solely on what they have done well or bad, they focus on what they can do better. Getting better will create positive results. Results are what gives a leader their power (Verschuren, 2016).
