There have been wide debates in the United States regarding gun control. Some people believe that there should be no rules governing gun control, while others believe that laws on gun control should be increased in this country. The reasoning behind gun control is to regulate laws on the sale, possession, and use of a gun due to the violence spread across the nation. However, some people who dislike gun control would bring up the Second Amendment, which allows citizens to have the right to bear arms and use them for self-defense. In my opinion, there should be no gun control, but there should be stricter background checks. State laws on guns, such as waiting periods, magazine restrictions, and permits to conceal, should be removed.
"A straw purchase is when someone buys a gun under another person's name, which is illegal, or when they purchase it under the table from corrupt gun dealers," as explained by Dan Noyes. This is where gun control should step in and prevent such occurrences from happening again. Additionally, some individuals advocate for the banning of certain types of guns. For instance, some people believe that if a gun looks a certain way, it is a bad gun that only bad people use. The debate between semiautomatic and automatic guns also arises, although most people cannot tell the difference or do not know what these terms mean. Only eleven states prohibit automatic guns, while the other thirty-nine allow both semiautomatic and automatic guns. Moreover, we must consider the cost of automatic weapons, which is significantly higher than that of semiautomatic guns. When people hear the term "assault rifle," they often want to ban them immediately. However, there are over one hundred and fifty types of assault rifles, and those against gun control only want to ban around a dozen of them. They fail to consider the functionality of the gun and its intended use, such as how handguns can be used for personal protection, while shotguns or rifles can be used for hunting and sporting. The AK-47 is the most famous gun that people want to ban because of its association with terrorists like Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban. While I understand that some guns classified as military-grade weapons should be banned, most guns do not pose a threat in the right hands. Furthermore, the Second Amendment should protect us because we have the right to bear arms and use them for self-defense. Banning all guns would contradict the Second Amendment.
