Laughter is The Best Medicine
The portrayal and deception of medicine on television these days is just unbearable. Medicine shows have become the most deceiving and impractical series out there. Reason being is television exposes the falsely life of the medical world, nurses, and doctors. A show called “Scrubs” that came out in 2001, is a comedy and dramatization about a medical intern named JD and his co-workers; that work their way up in the medical field. Unfortunately, the show underestimates some of the job descriptions of the doctors, nurses, and healthcare needs for their patients in the show.
In the show scrubs there is an orthopedic surgeon named Todd Quian (2001). Quian’s character is sex-freak machine and only giving high fives when he makes a sex joke ever since day one. An example of depiction in the show scrubs was season four episode twelve called “My best moment” (2001). In this episode everyone was having a flashback of their best moment. Doctor Quian ‘s flashback was he was in the middle of a surgery and the patient’s heart had beating stopped (My best moment,2001). Then doctor Quian demands to the doctor in the room to “Prop the patients hand up”, so the doctor does what he is told. At that moment doctor Quian spits on his hand, high fives the patient, and the patient’s heartbeat is beating again. Doctor Quian calls it the “Miracle high five”. The scene displayed an inaccurate way how to help the patient to get their heartbeat back and how it was unprofessional.
In reality what doctor Quian did was unrealistic and unprofessional in episode twelve season four. The reason being is if s...

...arts at $66,640 a year (cite). An author named Theresa Brown voices in her article “Why nurse stereotypes are bad for health” how television displays doctors doing the nurses job (2009). For an example, television reveals the doctor when checking the IV of the patient, giving the patient their medicine, educating the patient about their illness, and most importantly the emotional support (Brown,2009). Well that is completely inaccurate reason being that is the job of a RN to do. One aspect that is even inferior about medical television shows is how nurses are most of the time being viewed as the “Helpers” instead of being seen as “Autonomous and knowledgeable professionals” who they truly are voices Brown (2009). Even though everyone knows that doctors distinguish what’s best for their patient, nurses will always know a lot more about the patient and their diagnosis.
