Equality In Lady Macbeth

For the time that this play was written, Macbeth is very respectful and treats his wife as an equal and also takes her opinion highly over others. This type of relationship seems very unnatural for the time because in this time it was more customary for a woman to be submissive to the husband. There is many points in the play where Lady Macbeth shows her equality in the relationship. An example of this is in (play; act 1 scenes 5-7) when she finds out about Macbeth’s revelation that was given to him. When Lady Macbeth and her spouse converse about the revelation she begins to state her opinion and takes over and begins to plan the first murder without the consent of her husband Macbeth. Due to the circumstances that Lady Macbeth was treated as an equal, played a big part in the play, in a way she started the transformation of Macbeth. When Macbeth finds out he will be king someday, he is at first more curious than anything. Although Macbeth was curious, Lady Macbeth came up with her own thoughts which were mostly about how he will become king, then she did not hesitate to share them with Macbeth. After the prediction is made in (play; act 1 scene 4), Macbeth gets the title of thane of Cawdor because of his loyalty to the king, this proves that he was very loyal and very close to the king and would not easily betray him unless an outside influence such as his wife was involved. Since Macbeth treats Lady Macbeth as his equal, she had the power to influence him greatly, even enough to make him change and betray his king and take his life even though he would have given his life to protect him before because he was one of the most, if not the most loyal
