This has been used as a means of giving employees fairness, workplace policies, and flexibility. My aim is to prove in order for the union to remain viable there will be changes needed to survive in the 21st century. The U.S. private sector has been falling for almost 40, from 25% in the early 1970s to less than 7% by 2012. (Farber, 2015 p. 1126). Although, labor unions still exist, it was imperative that they learned how to strategize and merge their resources to prevent the constant delinked in membership, their collective bargaining power, and political influence. According to historically data unions in America have declined tremendously over years due to all the labor relations changes in the work environment.
“On average, over the last 20 years, unions have increasingly adopted more formal, systematic human resource policies.” (Gray, 2016 p. 05). Also, the “Right to Work” and Corporate Servitute legalistation passed caused a declined in union memership in the 1930’s.

In dealing with unions and employers there are many reasons for their resistance to unionzining. Typically, employers does not agree with the collective bargaining agreements and the impact it has on wages and managers having a certain level of flexiablity. Due to the changes in the economy and policital arena there is no way to guarantee that unions will still have a voice in society. Especially, if you look at the Fight for $15 affecting workers making minimum wage. “If they are to survive and play an effective role in policy formation designed to benefit working persons, American unions most likely will have to seek a radical change in American labor law so that they can reinvent the mechanisms by which they represent working persons and are able to make an impact in the larger public policy arena.” (BELLACE, 2014, pp. 1450029-17).
