It take more than just a love to work with children, it take time also dedication to help students to socially and emotionally and physically develop. However, the reward for watching a child to grow can be special. Early children hood education is important and it is the foundation for the overall growth and development of a children.
There was a man name Friedrich Froebel who taught adults how to be a kindergarten teachers. One of his students was Mrs. Carl Schurz, she moved to the United States so she can start the first kindergarten also preschools for the students under age five. Preschools were not started on the United States until around the 1920s. Preschools pretty much stay the same for 40 years with the largest growth happening in the 1960s. Many preschool teachers work in formal childcare centers that have preschool classrooms. Others work in public and private schools. Still others work for charitable or religious organizations that have preschool programs or Head Start programs. There are a few types of preschool programs. First there are structured preschool programs that focus on emphasizing an actual school setting and classroom activities in order to prepare the child for kindergarten or first grade. There are also day care centers, which are not as structured as preschool centers. Daycare’s focus mainly on child’s development through social interaction with children and caregivers. Then there are head start programs that are geared to give children a foot in the right direction in order to be ready for preschool or kindergarten. The right kind of childcare can be a wonderful opportunity to promote the profound learning children experience from birth through age five (Selecting child care, 2002).
Children who are in preschool are generally between the ages 3 to 5. During this preschool age, children go through many different changes and stages of development. The development that occurs in this stage, just as in other stages, supports the child and sets a foundation for future development. The child goes through physical, psychosocial, cognitive, moral, and various other types of development during this stage of life.
Every teacher has this potential whether they are aware of it or not. I have been a teacher for nine years in early childhood education and within those nine years I have become very aware of how powerful the smallest act of caring can turn a person’s life around or even just make someone’s day a little better. Being a preschool teacher has brought me great pleasure to my life simply brightening a child’s day and knowing that I am making a difference in their life. Through my journey as a teacher I have thought about how I can advance in my career field and still be active with children on a daily basis and continue making a difference in each child’s life as well as their parents. With plenty of thought and research I have come to the conclusion and gained the interest to become a preschool and childcare director.
As a teacher in early childhood development, I believe that the teacher skills and personality influence how children understand, observe and react to the classroom environment and the world around them. Even though part of teacher responsibilities are academic, daily interactions that encourage social, emotional and physical development are important. One of a quality effective early childhood educators’ characteristic is that they should have patience.
There are many aspects to early childhood education including what all it contains and is being taught. People willing to teach in an early childhood center are vitally important for learning and have overwhelming benefits for the children (Teufel). Children are expected to know much more information at an early age, so it benefits children to have the opportunity to take part in a program before kindergarten.
What many people do not know and one of the biggest misconceptions is that preschool is not just a place for play like many daycares; preschool is a place for a child to learn, develop, and be guided to a more successful path for their prospective careers. Early childhood education plays a key role in a child’s academic development because he or she learns soft skills, job skills, and develop positive traits.
