To Kill a Mockingbird: Protecting the ones the love
Have you ever protected someone that you cared for? It could be as simple as fending off a bully that was teasing you younger sibling or friend. You may have said or done something you shouldn’t have which could have resulted in you apologizing or going against your own morals. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird the author Harper Lee, illustrates the principle, that when an individual feels someone that is close to them is being threatened by something or someone, they will act to protect the ones the care for them as they don’t see the consequences of their actions. This is revealed through the actions of the Finch Family, Link Deas and other members of the Maycomb County.

Firstly Boo Radley came to rescue Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell. He came to save the children from “a man breathing heavily, and staggering”(351) Who was known as Bob Ewell. Boo saving the kids was him protecting the kids he cared for and he did not want to see them hurt and if he did not save them they would not have gotten away. Similarly, when Miss Maudie Atkinson home was able all the members of Maycomb County were there to help her. First, Scout heard the “soft taffeta- like sound so f muffled scurrying sound. “(92) and the “men of Maycomb in all degree of dress, took furniture from Miss Maudie’s House to the yard across the street.”(92) This indicates how the Town of Maycomb was a small-knit community and everyone was there to support and help out anyone during their time of need. As everyone saved Miss Maudie when she was in danger of the fire not acknowledging the fact they might die in the process. Furthermore, when Mayella Ewell is being questioned in the trial she tried to protect her father. When she was asked if her father, Bob Ewell had every beat her she lies and answers that her” paw’s never touched a hair o’my head in [her}] life,” (246) This shows Mayella was trying to protect and defend her father’s dignity and little as it was. She felt that someone she cared for was being threatened and she needed to help him.
