MKUltra began in April 13 1953 during the Korean War by the order of Allen Welsh Dulles, the CIA director. It began during the “paranoia” right after World War II when fear of communism was at its greatest and the nuclear arms race between the U.S. and the Soviet Union was beginning to intensify. In addition, the operation was a response to the communist nations, North Korea, Soviet Union, and China, having their own projects involving mind control. These nations, furthermore, were testing on U.S. prisoners of war to gain information on their research. The C.I.A. was headed by Sidney Gottlieb, a chemist and spymaster [8]. In his childhood, he suffered a club foot and a stuttering disability. Due to his club foot, he was excused from the military but ironically became an expert folk dancer in his later years. Also, in order to compensate for his stuttering, he received a master’s degree in speech therapy. He also earned a Ph. D from Cal Tech. During his adult life, he was a content husband who lived on a farm with his wife. He grew and sold Christmas trees at the sides of roads and only drank goat’s milk. When he wasn’t working on his farm, he focused on Project MKUltra. For instance, at times, he would dose random people with LSD soaked drinks and study the victims’ reactions. After the closure of the project, Gottlieb retired in 1972 noting that all of his work put into MKUltra was a waste and was “useless” due to the fact that there were no huge “advancements” made in the MKUltra project [9]. Likewise, the goals of the project were to create mind-controlling drugs against American enemies and find ways to assassinate U.S. enemies. These drugs included LSD, cocaine, and countless of other drugs and chemicals. The people in cha...
Kathryn Kish Sklar I have read Kathryn Kish Sklar book, brief History with documents of "Women's Rights Emerges within the Antislavery Movement, 1830-1870" with great interest and I have learned a lot. I share her fascination with the contours of nineteenth century women's rights movements, and their search for meaningful lessons we can draw from the past about American political culture today. I find their categories of so compelling, that when reading them, I frequently lost focus about women's rights movements history and became absorbed in their accounts of civic life. I feel Kathryn Kish Sklar has every right to produce this documentary, after studying women's rights movements since before college at Radcliff College, Harvard University and U. of Michigan where earned various degrees in history, and literature.
Although Vietnam is rapidly developing, the poverty percentage of the particular country is still high. Topman is considered to offer midrange prices to its customers but the currency of Vietnam is gradually low and unstable compared to the currency of United Kingdom. Therefore, Topman’s product might be considered expensive for most of the Vietnamese when products are converted to Vietnam Dong, which is the currency of Vietnam. As the price of fuel is increasing rapidly, same goes with the logistic expenses. Topman varies each of its collection every two weeks. Therefore, there will be frequent shipment of its products to Vietnam from United Kingdom. The price of Topman’s product will be slightly higher as logistics expenses are added in the cost of the products.
So many Americans today are in the dark about the true origin of the African descent. From my past experiences in history classes, the teacher of coarse job is to teach from the textbook. The problem with that is the whole truth does not lie between those pages of how African culture became about. I will discuss the first king of Egypt and how his story applies today.
In conclusion, it is emergent that Monsanto Company has been on the headlines for the wrong reasons. However, the country’s over-reliance in its products for food makes it hard for regulators and lawmakers to impute stringent regulatory measures. The company has been amassing power by acquiring competitors’ clients and threatening the existence of other market players. Financial analysis indicates that the company is money oriented and all its undertakings are to ensure that it has a consistent growth despite legal challenges.
The Tale of Kieu, called the most important piece of Vietnamese literature, is the story of a young Vietnamese girl's attempt to right the wrongs of her past lives by enduring hardship in this life. She is sold into prostitution and continuously deceived by men promising her love. The only man whose promise of love is not in vain is Kim Trong, the first man to pledge himself to her. Kieu is visited by a ghost who reveals to her the bad karma she earned in a previous life. Following Kieu and Kim Trong's vows of love, he is called off to attend to his family when his uncle dies. Soon after, robbers brake in to steal and vandalize Kieu's house, and they tie up her father and brother. In order to redeem them, Kieu sells herself into a marriage. Unfortunately, the man she marries then turns around to sell her to a brothel. This is the beginning of her life as a prostitute.
Taiko is Japanese for “big, fat drum” and it generally means a Japanese drum ensemble. This is considered a form of visual art, music, and performance that have brought great entertainment as well as promoted Japanese cultural values to audience worldwide. I was fortunate to be able to attend one of the Taiko drums performance by the Sacramento Taiko Dan group. This experience enabled me to use my critical thinking skills and left me with nothing but positive impression. It certainly had proven my initial stereotype of campus event as being boring very wrong.

Starbucks International choose to be involved with partnerships for the benefits these relationships offered over their typical wholly owned subsidiary philosophy. However, choosing the right partner, poses a potential problem for the company. Although Starbucks uses multiple lines of distribution to saturate to US coffee market, its international operations consist only of coffee-bar restaurants. Therefore, they only have one channel of distribution internationally. Through this, Starbucks had to choose a partner that would facilitate their creation and expansion of coffee bars in the international arena, specifically Asia and Japan their primary target. Starbucks developed a series of criteria to which they evaluated different potential partnerships in Japan and other foreign countries. First, they sought to implement the idea of ?partnership first, county second,? as a means of developing partnerships that focuses on the companies goals, and not the countries goals. Second Starbucks noted six additional criteria they used to narrow and conclude their partnership search. (1) They looked for companies with similar ideas a...

(see Figure 4, Zhao Guozhi, 2005) Up to now, as the world's largest importer of sesame seeds, Japan imports an amazing amount every year. It imports almost all its domestically consumed sesame. In 2013, the nation imported 141,573 tons. (Ippei Tanoue, 2014). Its trade accounted 25 percent for the world trade volume. Japan was importing sesame seeds, in the past, mainly from China, followed by Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Tanzania. Sudan and Burma were important souring country to Japan, but due to political instability, they produce and export less. To stabilize supply source, Japan is still looking for more stable supplier, although African countries now export more than half of their sesame seed to Japan. But it is still not enough. Many factors contribute to the variation in market price and supply of sesame. Like in China, who used to be a major exporter of sesame, but the tedious harvesting process, mostly done by hand, discouraged many farmers there from cultivating the crop. Numerous farms have now switched to growing more profitable vegetables. The reduction in domestic yield, along with rising domestic demand for sesame oil, has pushed up sesame

One of the most important types of Japanese performing art is the kabuki play. Developed in the early 17th century, kabuki has remained a popular form of theater in Japan (Johnson 1). A maid of the Izumo Shrine created kabuki in the 1600's (Johnson 1). The Traditional Theater of Japan written by Yoshinobu Inoura in 1981 stated that kabuki was named using Japanese characters in which "ka means song, bu means dance, and ki means skill" (218). At this time the plays consisted of females executing dancing performances (Johnson 1). These plays tried to show feelings and conflicts dealing with affection, envy and courage ("Noh and Kabuki" 1). Audiences enjoyed kabuki because the plays related to their lives (Kitazawa 4). The styles of kabuki changed though when women were first banned from kabuki.
