The juxtaposition between the two schools Junior attends encapsulates the idea of materialistic White superiority. Junior starts freshman year at Wellpinit High School, a high school on the reservation. However, after a long conversation with his geometry teacher, Junior is convinced to transfer to Reardan, an all-White school off of the reservation. At Wellpinit, Junior had the same geometry textbook that his mother did (Alexie, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, 31). Contrasting this poverty, “Reardan has one of the best small schools in the state, with a computer room and huge chemistry lab and a drama club and two basketball gyms” (Alexie, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, 46). Since Wellpinit does not have enough money for new Geometry textbooks but Reardan can afford the very best resources, the dissonance is extremely apparent. A school for predominantly Indians is painfully underfunded, while the White school receives plenty of money. Due to their racial demographics, the two schools are set in two completely different spheres, exemplifying materi...

Benefits Of A Lunch Sales At The Junior High School Essay

- Positive Roles Initiator-coordinator- About 4 years ago we were looking at ways to increase lunch sales at the junior high school, I suggested that we start a sandwich line. There was no more room to expand the cafeteria but taking a line that sold nothing but ala carte items such as water and chips and putting out some sandwiches and fruit and milk turned this line into a meal line, it increased our reimbursable meal sales by 10% that year. Moreover, we also increased second meal sales since many kids would get a sandwich to tide them over and then go through another line and buy another meal....   [tags: High school, Secondary school, Middle school]

Essay on My Life At The Ghetto Junior High School

- tell my mom, call her at work to tell or when I would see her after school but she would tell me to stop whining and causing trouble. I was truly 11 years old and alone in the world. Genital stage by Freud (Puberty and later) and Adolescence stage by Erikson (12-18 years old) This stage is where my life went from being alone to being alone in hell. I moved to Reno, Nevada with my dad, step mom and three step siblings in 6th grade. The Juxtaposition of Competitors Essay

- Swimming is often referred to as an individual sport. In competition you are given a lane, a heat, and you compete for your time. Answer one question then, to prove its nature of individuality, at the seven hundred meter mark of the gruesome fifteen hundred, when the lactic acid has built up, and your body feels like failing, what pushes you beyond a point you have never reached before. The drowned out sounds of a team cheering, or seeing a friend charge through crowds flailing their arms through the air, is all I need to keep going and represent my team in a race to the finish....   [tags: Competition, Swimming, Sports]

The Greatest Challenge Of Depression During My Junior Year Of High School

- The greatest challenge I faced was depression during my junior year of high school. Little did I know that my life will become a roller coaster, and if I did not hold on tight enough I will fall. I was just starting college classes at the University of Minnesota even though I was just a high school student. I remembered the anxiety and excitement of this turning point in my life, but that was not the only change. A month before school starts my dad left and my mom was only seven months pregnant....   [tags: High school, College, Mother, Grammar school]

My Diverse Field Experience At Chiddix Junior High School Essay

- I conducted my diverse field experience hours at Chiddix Junior High School. I had the opportunity to observe two sixth grade Spanish classes taught by Mrs. Lord. The two Spanish classes that she taught had different personalities. Her first class was more quiet and engaged in the material compared to her second class. The second class was much more talkative and would easily get off task. This may be due to the fact that her second class has gym before her class. Mrs. Lord has to travel between Kingsley and Chiddix during the day, so sometimes she would be five minutes late to class because of traffic....   [tags: Education, Teacher, High school]

Analysis Of Modesto Junior College ( Mjc ) Is An Amazing School Essay

- Security Modesto Junior College (MJC) is an amazing school, but like all other schools it has its own issues. A major issue that MJC goes on at MJC is vehicle theft and minor car collisions. The amount of complaints and problems that surround these two issues is remarkable. Almost every week or two, everyone attending MJC receives an email about a vehicle that has either been stolen or burglarized. Very few students are lucky enough to retrieve their vehicle, but in most cases they have to take the loss and go through a long process with their insurance in order to make up for the loss....   [tags: Security guard, Security, Security police]
