The word gang has taken on many meanings throughout the years. Originally, the word was just used to express a group of people. You probably have heard someone talk about the local gang of boys or something of that sort. In older times, the word gang didn’t have such the negative tone that comes along with it today. As time has gone on, the word gang has grown to be a word that many worry about when they hear it. It seems a “gang” has evolved from just being a group of people to a group of people that associate in criminal or other antisocial purpose. Street gangs have become the primary distributors of illegal drugs on the streets, Gang members smuggle and transport drugs within the country, and many use juveniles to do their “dirty work” due to the high risks of getting arrested. Juveniles do not receive a sentence a grown adult would in court; which leads to many gangs persuading juveniles into joining their “Family”. The discovery of many juveniles gang related tattoos does not come as a surprise due to the large amounts of street gangs in the street that pursue teenager’s to join their associations. Most juveniles that get involved in the life of crime live in a single mother home which does play a big part of their past and present behavior. Gangs take advantage of juveniles who struggle to find their identity or have problems fitting in among others their age. Street gangs are always looking for young juveniles who will get distribute for their association; they are considered “fresh meat” which means they can mold them into being what they want them to be. Large street gangs rapidly employ violence to control and expand drug distribution activities, targeting rival gangs and dealers who neglect or refuse to pay extortion ... ... middle of paper ... ...g violence statistics show that majority of the member in a gang are directly involved in gang related criminal activities and one third of them have no involvement. There is no doubt that gangs have become a big threat in our society. They have not only extremely grown and affected society but they have increased crime to another level in which takes way too much to try and control. So many task forces have been created with the purpose of slowing down gang activity but from past events stopping gang activity seems unreachable. Law enforcement has advanced rapidly and it has slowed down gang activity and drug production, but just like law enforcement improves their techniques to capture criminals, criminals improve their techniques as well. Crime will never come to an end, and that is why there will always be new opportunities in law enforcement careers.
