My goal as a writer is simple: write a paper that wants to be read. I know, every writer wants to be noticeable. They want fame, wealth and notoriety. But for me, I just want a paper that people would enjoy. As a writer I want to spark the passion of my reader, I want him/her to walk away and go “Wow I actually never thought of it like that”, or something like that. As I am right now, I am not at that level. I have not written a piece that I can truly be proud of, something that makes me feel that I, Adam, am a very good writer. But that is why I joined AP Lang and Comp: to help myself become a better writer. I feel that this class can help me in my journey to becoming a better writer. I feel that once I master how to write a meaningful paper, I can expand my horizon. In this justification

I first read the prompt and start to form an opinion or a certain belief towards the subject. Once I have this opinion, I use it to inspire me when I write an essay. It serves as my focal point and the backboard in which I can start, from there I can begin using examples in my life today that help support my belief. After I am done writing every detail that I have time for, I look through my essay and find where I made an obvious grammatical error, or somewhere in which I can improve upon my word choice. Now this is not the best way to write a paper, and I know that. But that is why I use other people’s opinion to help myself become a better writer. For example, in my EDM ( Ethical Decision Making ) essay, someone suggested that I should not start a sentence with the word “with”. When looking back through the essay, I realized that he/she was absolutely correct. So I went back and I fixed it. Now this is just one example, but it shows that I use other people’s opinion in order to help me become a better
It is just the beginning but I like the class already because I love to write. Although, these may seem not seem like goals to others but they are my short term goals and no matter the obstacles that come in my way I am going to try my hardest to complete them. For the time that I started college some people would say that I am behind but I say it doesn’t matter when you graduate as long as you graduate. Although, I just change to a double major so I am not going to graduate anytime soon. My long term goals are to be a successful woman entrepreneurs. Being in college can be a long process but I feel like I can obtain that quicker than anything else I truly want. Once I graduate with a career opportunity job I can start taking the steps toward my long term
Most of us write in some form every day, so you would expect that most of us would be well practiced and pretty good at writing. I read and write all the time; I have been taken several college courses and nearly all of them require write of some form. However, before taking this class not only was I not a good writer, I knew I wasn’t a good writer. Now I am not saying that I am ready to write my first novel, but I certainly more confident in turning in my college papers. The content of this course and the style of teaching was incredibly beneficial to me. Throughout this course we had multiple assignments that were aimed to improve us as writers. I am sure that everyone took something different from this course, and I am sure that each student took more from some areas than others; however for me there were three major things that I saw that I benefited from most. Our weekly craft lessons, grammar plan, but most of all, observational learning.
In fact, I began this semester with plans to accomplish skills that would eventually bring me to an understanding of what a great writer is. During the summer I attended an English mini course which proved to be just a quick version of some high school rules on writing, that did not require much thinking or writing tasks, but it did provide an understanding of what was going to be expected in colle...
When I was first accepted into the AP Language & Composition course, I felt overwhelmed. I had always received above average grades in all subject areas, but because this was an AP course I was unsure if my English skills were up to par. During the summer, my anxiety about the course increased. I began to feel that my writing skills were inferior to the skills of my peers’. Before this course, I did not have a developed writing voice or style. I had little knowledge of what phrases or words to avoid using in writing. I started to wonder if I truly belonged in an AP course. After having completed this course, I have a better grasp of the English language and have acquired skills that have improved my writing.
As an incoming freshman in an enrolled in a writing course, but still in high school, I believe there are many aspects for me to learn from this course. Learning to become a better writer, achieving higher quality, and improvement of a great flow is what I want to achieve from this class in my future writing career. Being a high school student, I acknowledge that I am filled with more weaknesses rather than strength, but the knowledge that I had been educated for this class is pretty impressive as well. In addition the classes previous to this class set me up to a better fundamental to succeeded in this class and were emphasized the power of writing in my future career as well.
Stephen Westerholm’s most recent work, Justification Reconsidered: Rethinking a Pauline Theme, puts forth his aim “to update and to make more widely accessible earlier work I have done” (p. viii.4). This book does a fair amount to accomplish his goal in only 99 pages and will be a fairly easy read for the lay leader or rural pastor interested in this topic of discussion.
As I look back into my high school years, I thought I wrote papers well. But then coming into a college environment, my papers were mediocre. By overlooking at my past papers, I found that they were unorganized, sloppy and had bad use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as a foundation for the future papers I intend on writing in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, impacting the reader with diction and also by being creative, will help become an ideal writer. Following the criteria of staying motivated in short and long term goals, taking responsibility for actions and finally the ability to study well will help me develop into a supreme student.
Admittedly, these are only a few of the skills I learned in Comp II. Academic writing is necessary to help me get to the next phase of my educational journey and I value the lessons I learned this semester. I found out that I do indeed belong here and I have the skills to move forward. I consider completing English Comp II as an extremely useful accomplishment that I can add to my toolbox.
Writing is so much easier when you don’t have a ridiculous amount of guidelines you have to follow. With literary freedom, we are able to express ourselves more than if we have to follow a specific set of rules for every thing we write. This is one downfall for high school English. We have to order our papers in a specific sequence while writing about a topic that is chosen for us. This English composition class changed all of that. We were able to write about anything that related to the given type of essay, which greatly improved our ability to fully immerse ourselves into every paper. This greatly affected my writing thoughts about writing; they changed from hating to write for school to actually enjoying it because I was able to find new things about my self while deepening my knowledge for writing.
Since English is my second language, my writing is growing slow. I took many ISL classes in Jefferson Community and Technical College to improve my English and writing. I took English 101, and 102. I leaned how to write MLA format essays. I learned how to in English (W 290) class. In this course I learned how to write APA format essays. During this class, I took this year I have not only grown as a student and a writer, but as a person as well. I feel that my experience of all these English courses I took, I grown my knowledge and became more confident. I realized that my writing skills in English courses extremely beneficial to me. At the beginning of the year, I was scared of Comp. Some friends, who had already taken the class, told me how hard it is going to be. They told me that there is a heavy workload and homework almost every night. Comp is a college class, so I knew it was going to take a great deal of effort to get a favorable grade. Coming in, I didn’t have very much experience writing essays on a college level. In previous years, I tried to take the easiest English class I could. I hated writing and tried to do the bare minimum to get by. I thought I wasn’t skilled enough at writing, and no one would want to read what I write. Taking Comp has helped me develop as a writer. There is a massive difference between my first essay and my last. Over the semester, my strengths have gotten stronger, my weaknesses have improved, and I have set goals for Comp 210.
When I started this class I thought I was somewhat alright writer. I understood the basics of writing and believed I knew how to write an entertaining piece. All of the papers we wrote showed me one of my weaknesses as a writer.
My purpose as a writer is to make myself even more improved in my writing skills. I want to extend my vocabulary and learn how to make enhanced writing. I hope to accomplish making writing easier for me as a student. I want to learn what new things I'm capable of doing with writing short stories and essays. I'm trying to improve my writing so I can become college and workforce ready. My audience is my teacher. I know that my audience will guide me in the right direction in order to make my writing worth reading. My teacher will help my writing skills improve by telling me what I need to fix and what I need to improve. This will inform the choices I make by trying different things to make myself better. Listening to others advice about how to become better at writing will also inform the choices I make.
Writing is an important part of everyone’s life, whether we use it in school, in the workplace, as a hobby or in personal communication. It is important to have this skill because it helps us as writers to express feelings and thoughts to other people in a reasonably permanent form. Formal writing forms like essays, research papers, and articles stimulates critically thinking. This helps the writer to learn how to interpret the world around him/her in a meaningful way. In college, professors motivate students to write in a formal, coherent manner, without losing their own voice in the process. Improving your writing skills is important, in every English class that’s the main teaching point; to help students improve their writing skills. Over the period of time that I was in this course, I thought it would be a very simple and easy to finish class. But as time went on, I found myself to be demanded more of what I think, what I feel, what must be relied on my ability to understand the concepts and conventions of not only the essays, but of what goes on in the writers mind when writing.
