John Lennon once said, “Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn’t argue with that; I’m right and I will be proven right. We’re more popular than Jesus now; I don’t know which will go first – rock ‘n’ roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right, but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It’s them twisting it that ruins it for me.” This quote demonstrates the controversial statements that John Lennon often promoted, which left many people appalled. John Lennon is one of the most influential musicians in British history, which triggered controversy with the government, ultimately leading to his assassination. Government did not adore John Lennon and his spunky attitude. According to Josh Magness’ article, “The Legacy of John Lennon,” Lennon and his powerful desire for pacifism undoubtedly became a threat to the United States wartime efforts. Therefore, FBI agents went so far as to be in the audience of one of John’s benefit concerts, writing down his song lyrics as he performed (Magness). Shortly after the concert dilemma, Lennon’s non-immigrant U.S. visa expired and the government tried to the best of their ability to deport John. However, Lennon then proved that the government did intentionally attempt to remove him out of the country because of his political activism and anti-war sentiments (PAGE NUMBER). Additionally, in a random interview, Lennon shared his encounter with whom he claims to be aliens. John received a metal ball almost egg-shaped and gave it to the reporter, who still has it to this day. Lennon thought to never share this, that people would think he’s crazy, but he was wrong. Many people saw the truth in John’s story and believed the government did also, that’s why they were spying on Lennon. However, the government was onto more than what the public saw. Undercover agents noticed that the activists that John supported were heavy drug users. Perhaps John was a victim of …show more content…
In Philip Norman’s book, “John Lennon the Life,” as a teenager, John would watch films where men would beat up women, and he thought that was as the “tough” thing to do. Additionally, as stated in an article by Alistair McGeorge, “John Lennon's dark side from domestic violence and emotional abuse to mocking disabled people,” John publicly announced that his past mental and physical violence has motivated his later duties in life to stand for peace and love. However, John regretted his violence and took it as a learning experience. Similarly, in his first wife, Cynthia Lennon’s book about John, she wrote that John slapped her in the face in a time of jealousy (McGeorge). After Cynthia’s book release, several fans around the world were shocked and disappointed. Numerous amounts of John Lennon admirers were now questioning if he brought up his old ways with his second wife, Yoko
John Lennon was a gifted and talented artist, so unique and phenomenal that millions of American youths followed him and the Beatles during the 1960’s. Even after the Beatles disbanded, his fan base continued to follow him. John was an extraordinary composer and wrote hundreds of songs by himself and with his fellow Beatle’s band member, Paul McCartney. While John is primarily known for his singing, he also staged peace demonstrations in hopes to impact the day’s youth and change world governments. His artistic accomplishments also included drawing cartoons and writing poetry. Because he was so controversial at times, some people were scared or hated him. Unfortunately, John suffered an untimely death, but his legend will always live on.
The Beatles are a band that has made a huge impact into our world. The impact of the Beatles influenced many things. Such things would be types of music, the people, and a world movement.

As stated in his award-winning song Imagine, “Imagine all the people living life in peace.” By that eight word snippet from one of John Lennon’s most respected pieces of art, you should be able to tell what kind of man he was. Most people know him as one of the four of, in my opinion, of the most legendary bands of all time, The Beatles. One who inspired millions to pursue their dreams, passions, and anything their heart desired. Let me ask you one question, when you think of John Lennon, what do you think of? Do you think of his long hair? The round glasses that were always placed on the bridge of his peculiar nose? The leading reason as to why The Beatles went their own way? You probably don’t think of him as a hero. The stereotypical “hero” type is usually wearing a cape of some sorts, has a cliche catch line, unrealistic powers, and has a color scheme that matches every single thing they own, if you’re batman and you have a basic, overused color, then you’re in good shape. Everything comes in black right? If you’re anything like me, not all heroes have all of those things. My hero wrote legendary songs, inspired millions to do more than just go to comic con to catch a glimpse at a forty year old man with a leotard
Dylan hardly ever missed an opportunity to express his contempt for being labelled the ‘political voice of a generation’. However this did not prevent him from becoming one of the most influential figures in 1960’s counterculture.
“He helped shape the agenda of the sixties – socially and politically, no less than musically” (“John Lennon”). John Lennon was extremely influential to the world during his lifetime, and mainly during the sixties. He fueled many movements with his strong willed beliefs in peace and happiness. The actions and music of John Lennon drastically altered how many people viewed the world around them during the sixties and throughout his entire life.
We’ve all heard innumerable times that The Beatles are the most influential pop group ever. They were the first to intentionally put guitar feedback on a record, roll a tape backward and personally compose orchestral arrangements for their tracks. Their influence is far reaching, seen especially in artists such as David Bowie, Dr. Dog and Tame Impala.
“Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives… I think we’re being run by maniacs for maniac ends and I think i’m liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That’s what’s insane about it,”. These words were spoken by a very well-known music artist back in the 1970s, John Lennon. Not only was John Lennon a huge musical artist, he took a gigantic role in politics. John Lennon’s background and involvement in politics lead him as being a considered rebel. He had gotten into some sticky situations because of him being into politics.
The Beatles were a popular British rock and roll band in the 1960’s. At the time, they were the most popular musicians in the world and had profound effects on culture worldwide. Just because they were the most popular, however, does not mean that they were universally loved. They weren’t. John Lennon once said, “You have to be a bastard to make it.
The Beatles have been noted as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, and most persuasive bands of all time. They were both musical and lyrical masterminds whom interpreted their opinions through their music. Of those many opinions their main message they wanted to send was the idea of peace. The Beatles opposed the war in Vietnam and were avid participants in the anti-war movement; by trend setting, not being afraid to speak their mind, and writing songs including: “Give Peace A Chance,” “Revolution,” “All You Need Is Love,” and many more. These songs insinuated and instilled their views on world peace, and back their opinions on the war.
John Lennon was a strong believer in fate. In one of his songs, titled All You Need is Love, John says, “There’s no where you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be.” This brings up the question of whether or not he was meant to be on that sidewalk, at that moment, on December 8, 1980, with five bullets in his back. If someone had told him not to come home that night, or go in the back door, would he have listened? The truth is, there is no advice I would give John, because it wouldn’t have made a difference. It was his fate. He lived his life freely, and the way he wanted to live it. John Lennon was open to his fans, and this left him accessible to a mentally unstable man in search of fame.
John Lennon’s solo career was marked by experimentation and political activism. Most importantly, he proved that musicians could successfully reinvent and transform themselves, and carve out success on their own. To begin with John Lennon was a poor student and lasted only a year at art school, so thankfully music was a good back up plan. John Lennon would go on to put out albums such as “Power to the People” single and Imagine LP. These albums were more political and musically adventurous. Imagine was also marked by brutal honesty, between Lennon's admissions of cruel behavior on "Jealous Guy" and alleged digs at Paul McCartney throughout "How Do You Sleep?". Like everyone else in life, John Lennon had his ups and downs throughout the 1970’s. The albums Sometime In New York City and Mind Games did not replicate the success of his first two albums. Lennon was also trying to fight off being deported by the Nixon administration in 1973 due to his stance in politics. Things started to look up when his single “Whatever Gets You Through The Night” hit No. 1 in 1974. On December 8th, 1980, Mark David Chapman shot and killed Lennon outside his apartment in New York City. The entire world stopped to grief, and musical tributes poured in from all corners for years to come. John Lennon was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in
