Love is a very interesting and complex subject. Love and loving are a couple of topics we have been discussing in Dr. Rappleyea’s lecture this past week. Love is very unique, there are multiple aspects that influence a person’s view on the topic. The way a person loves is influenced by their culture, their social environment, and their familial interactions (2015). During our lecture, we discussed John Lee and his theory of love styles. We went over the different love styles, including what they mean, and how a person within a particular category reacts during specific circumstances. In this paper, I will go over my results from the “Are you a good listener?” survey, as well as my results from the “My Style of Loving” survey. The first survey I completed was the “My Style of Loving” inventory, which is also the “Love Styles” inventory. My three highest scores were in the storge, agape, and eros categories. I was not very surprised at the storge category. The storge category in Lee’s perspective is “conceptualized as friendship love, or a type of affectionate love between companions.” (Welch, 2010, p 194). This assignment required me to complete a couple of surveys regarding my love style and listening skills. I have learned a number of things from this assignment alone. There are many different ways to love, and my love styles will gradually change over time. I now have the knowledge to become a better and more effective listener. I also have learned what qualities certain lovers possess. After completing this assignment, I know what I need to work on to become a better listener and a better lover. I now have a better understanding of what I will be looking for in a partner, and the qualities of the different love styles I will want them to
