Melanie Klein Melanie Klein a well known Psychoanalyst was born In Vienna, Austria on March 30th 1882 and died on September 22, 1960. Melanie was born into a family that had a great deal of financial problems. Her father, who she greatly looked up to, was raised by a very strict orthodox Jewish family, however rebelled against becoming a rabbi to pursue a career in dentistry (Segal ). At 17 Melanie was attending school to study medicine, however soon dropped out because she was engaged (Rosenfeld, 1968).Melanie married at the age of twenty-one, but from the beginning experienced many problems with her husband. They divorced in 1922 and both went their separate ways. Melanie then realized that her true happiness lied in her two children Melitta and Hans. Ending up in Budapest with her family, she found the work of Dr. Freud After reading his book she was interested in pursuing her study as a psychoanalyst. Advertisements show up everywhere in our lives. Whether you’re on the computer, watching TV, driving down the road, or reading propaganda you are observing advertisements. They are constantly altering our opinions and they do this with three simple tactics. Ethos, logos, and pathos, people have been using the rhetoric system from 1,000 years ago, literally because the rhetoric approach was created by Aristotle. It has with stood the test of time and is still the best tactic to convince people to do something. That advertising and marketing uses rhetoric and is pretty successful. I will be analyzing Ram’s “God made a Farmer” commercial and explain how each aspect of rhetoric was used and what was so effective about this commercial.
Melanie Klein was born in Vienna, Austria in 1882 on March 30th. She began being interested in psychoanalysis between 1910 -1919. She is said to be a pioneer of child analysis and early development. Melanie started working as a psychoanalyst around the time of World War I. In 1910 Klein and her family, which included a husband, and two children, (a daughter, and a son) moved to Budapest. In 1912 she became a member of the Hungarian Psychoanalytic Society, and started her analytic training with Sandor Fereczi. She later moved to Berlin and started working with Karl Abraham from 1924-1925. Although she spent more time with Fereczi than Abraham, her work with Abraham is considered more important to her work. Despite the fact that Bennett made great strides for the improvement of patient treatment in asylums, she faced brutal attacks from people who legitimately disagreed with her opinion of surgery as well as people that refused to accept women in the study of psychiatry (543-544). Sigmund Freud is an excellent example of a male authority taking charge of a subject that he does not understand. Although Freud is largely recognized as a prestigious man of psychoanalysis, he had many outlandish ideas towards women, and he admitted to not understanding the complexities surrounding women. He clung to gender stereotypes and depicted the female as an inferior being, eternally jealous of men (Lax 394). The weak and incapable portrayal of female in Freud’s psychoanalytical theories reflects the ability of women to enter this new study of psychology.
Maya Angelou is well known today for her poetry. She is a very inspirational woman that poems speak to many young women still today. Maya Angelou is one of those people that everyone loves and not many could ever have anything negative to say. She went through hard times as a child that later made her a better poet.
In the summer of 1915, Anna Freud established personal success as she successfully passed her teacher's examination. (Dyer, 1983) At this time, her career path differed from that of her father, Sigmund. Anna displayed early indications of a desire to work with children, whereas her father’s work was primarily focused on psychoanalysis of adults. She began translating her father's works into German. When the Freud Family vacationed separately, Anna would write to her father asking clarifications of psychoanalytic terms. While Anna displayed the qualities of a more than apt pupil of her father’s life work, her endeavors and efforts would establish her preeminence as a child psychoanalyst, an adept researcher, and a teacher. According to Dyer, (1983) Anna’s readings and translations of her father’s works marked the beginning of her direct involvement with the work of her father.

Sigmund Freud was the first of six children to be born into his middle class, Jewish family. His father was a wool merchant, and was the provider for the family. From the time Freud was a child, he pondered theories in math, science, and philosophy, but in his teens, he took a deep interest in what he later called psychoanalysis. He wanted to discover how a person's mind works, so he began to explore the conscious and unconscious parts of one's psyche. Freud's parents and siblings were directly involved in allowing him to pursue this unexplored area of psychology. He was given his own room so that he could study his books in silence, and was only disturbed when it was time to eat. Freud eventually married Martha Bernays. She was cooperative and completely subservient to her husband. She was simply filling a role that the society during that time insisted was proper for all women. Freud himself derived his attitudes toward women and his beliefs about the roles of individual sexes from personal experiences in the strict culture of the time. In the middle to late eighteen hundreds, Central European society distinguished clearly between the roles of men and women. Cultural norms dictated that men be responsible for work outside of the home, and the financial well being of the family, while the women's responsibilities were in the home and with the children. With these specific gender roles came the assumption of male dominance and female submission. Females were pictured as serene, calm, creatures that were lucky to have the love and protection of their superior husbands. Her childhood left her feeling lonely and hostile but she channeled it into something positive, which in turn became legendary. Despite the odds that were against her for simple being a woman, she made major contributions to psychology. She did not accept the norms of Sigmund Freud and challenged many of his notions. She paved the way for many psychologists, especially females or those who wanted to work in feminine psychology. Our reasoning for choosing Karen Horney was due to the fact that we are young women trying to break into the field of psychology as well. We were inspired by her bold effort to oppose Sigmund Freud despite his prestige position in the psychology community and the possible public ridicule that would surface against her. She is one of the very few women psychologists still mentioned today, which gained our respect immediately. However, we believed that she does not get the recognition she deserves, which is why we wanted to introduce her to the class. As we go through our psychology books, she is mentioned in very pages and the authors usually sum up her contributions in a paragraph or two. If we were able to write about Karen Horney and her legacy in psychology in over ten pages, why can’t they? Freud was born in May 6, 1856 in the Czech Republic. He attended Spurling Gymnasium. At Spurling, he was first in his class and graduated Summa Cum Laude. After studying medicine at the University of Vienna, he gained respect while working as a physician. Freud and a friend were introduced to a case study that resulted in no cause, but they found that having the patient talk about her experiences had a calming effect on the symptoms. That was considered to be the beginning of the study of psychology.
Sigmund Freud, the father of modern psychology, shaped the course of medicine in many ways such as the treatment of psychopathology and others feats in the neurological field.
