Melanie Klein Melanie Klein a well known Psychoanalyst was born In Vienna, Austria on March 30th 1882 and died on September 22, 1960. Melanie was born into a family that had a great deal of financial problems. Her father, who she greatly looked up to, was raised by a very strict orthodox Jewish family, however rebelled against becoming a rabbi to pursue a career in dentistry (Segal ). At 17 Melanie was attending school to study medicine, however soon dropped out because she was engaged (Rosenfeld, 1968).Melanie married at the age of twenty-one, but from the beginning experienced many problems with her husband. They divorced in 1922 and both went their separate ways. Melanie then realized that her true happiness lied in her two children Melitta and Hans. Ending up in Budapest with her family, she found the work of Dr. Freud After reading his book she was interested in pursuing her study as a psychoanalyst.
