In this essay I will talk about how important it is for people who do not fit in, to fit in. Girl bullying is not the same, the girl bullies have changed completely, their appearance, attitude, and who they bully. Students wake up every day wondering if they are going to fit in at all or be accepted by anybody at school. If the administrators, and peers who are watching them get bullied would step up and take care of the students bullying their peers, then maybe all of the bullying in schools would stop. Also parents at home need to be paying attention to what people are saying to their daughters/sons then maybe bullying online would become less frequent.
Students wake up every day with the worry if they are going to look good or fit in. Most people and/or students wouldn’t just get up from bed and go to school or work without going through the daily routine of just trying to look good. Most girls wake up, put make-up on, do their hair, and pick out an outfit everyday to just “fit in.” There are not many girls that wake up, brush their hair, and go to school. Most boys will wake up and make sure their hair is acceptable, a lot of boys don’t care about their appearance or who accepts them, it is mainly girls. People in general society make it almost impossible for girls and sometimes boys to keep up with everything around them, girls being girls, will always try to “fit in”, change their likes, change their appearance and even change their personality just to be accepted. Society will never make it easy for girls to “fit in” or be accepted by other students.

If anything can help bullying it would be the people who are surrounded by it, which would be everyone. Most people may not think that they are anywhere near bullies, however bullies are everywhere. Wether administration, peers, or parents think that their kids, classmates, or students are perfect other people look at them like play toys, and hurt them to the breaking point.

To know how to prevent bullying, it’s important to note when these actions first become visible. It can be seen that bullying occurs most often in schools, then at work places. It is known that many schools stress and make efforts to stop bullying because younger kids are more susceptible to bullying. They have more difficulty defending themselves. However, this is not always the case. For example, “[…] the Columbine school shooting tragedy - highlight the serious and sometime deadly consequences of bullying behavior” (American Physiological Association). The teens who were involved in the shootings were bullied and decided to take revenge which led to the killing and injures of many people. In order to prevent further problems related to bullying, it’s important to spread the word. It’s true that bullying is already commonly known, but the health effects to it and especially the genetic effects are not. Spreading these ideas around might just bring in light for many to take serious action because of the implications it has to not just the ones being bullied, but also to the future generations to come. When the word bullying is brought up, one always pictures in his or her mind a big angry boy, who picks on other small helpless children. What some don’t realize is that bullying comes hand in hand with popularity, likeability, and peer acceptance. Children are heavily influenced by other kids his or her age, as the old saying goes, “But mom Jimmy gets to stay up past 10, why can’t I?” According to Miranda Witvliet, to understand children’s peer group affiliation, you need to be able to examine children naturally occurring groups resemble each other on bullying, likeability, and perceived popularity. To be accepted by a popular group of kids, others would follow in his or her footsteps and will bully others, even if the child knew it were wrong. Schools around the country have constructed anti-bullying campaigns and have programs setup to teach students, teachers, and family members what to do to prevent bullying. In an article by Jennifer Dignan, she explains how Stomp Out Bullying and The National Center for Bullying Prevention are two organizations working to put an end to the epidemic. To help prevent bullying people need to understand how the victims and the bullies are affected by other peers.
Imagine being alone with no friends and no one to talk to. Now, place yourself in a location where you are surrounded by closed tight-knit groups where acceptance from those groups is a challenge to obtain. Then, picture yourself back when you were in high school, but this time, apply the image you have created for yourself. Do you wish for acceptance? Or friendship? Do you feel confident in taking the challenges that high school will bring? High school has a significant impact on an individual’s development. Whether it is their personality or behavior, an individual who goes through high school can see changes in their characteristics. A common stereotype in high school that is largely portrayed in the media is the existence of cliques. Cliques can give an individual a sense of belonging or a sense of betrayal. These two behaviors are commonly seen with the acceptance or rejection from these groups. An immediate result from these two actions is a change in morale or confidence for that individual. Cliques exist in high school due to individual conformity. An individual conforms to the group in order to feel accepted or to feel secured. Groups or cliques in high school have a significant negative effect on an individual’s development of characteristic and personality and the reasons as to why individuals join these types are not justified.
Not only is it already hard to be a teenager, but having to deal with constant teasing and harassment is just something no one needs. There is a point in life where bullying can become so terrifying that students will rather stay at home than have to face their bully. Darnell “Dynasty” Young is a 17 year old gay teen who has gone through every possible way to stop his bullies from harassing him. His mother has tried everything but hasn’t been able to put a stop to it. Until one day, Young’s mother bought Darnell a stun gun. His mother told him to bring it to school and when the bullies began to torment him to take it out. He did just that, he did not actually shoot anyone he just waved it up in the air to intimidate his bullies. He not only got suspended but he also got arrested, yet the six boys teasing him and calling him names received no punishment whatsoever. (CNN) Young is one of the many kids that go through this type of abuse in a place where they should feel safe. This is an example of the school failing to do anything to prevent this kind of behavior, even after the parents try to intervene. This is also a great example of parents failing to implement high behavior standards by enforcing them to retaliate. Parents should be there to advice a peaceful way of resolving this in a non violent way not give them the weapon. By implementing prevention programs such as activities that help fight bullying can ultimately lead to the end of this horrific thing some kids face each day.

Bullying is a growing concern in a society where status and exercising power over another human being are increasingly important in developing one’s social circles. Dan Olweus (Norwegian researcher and founder of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program) defines it as an “aggressive behaviour that is intentional and that involves an imbalance of power. Most often, it is repeated over time” (Violencepreventionworks.org). School victimization is an especially delicate matter that has only really been in the public eye for the past half century, as more and more researchers and psychologists pointed out its short- and long-term negative effects on targeted individuals. It has since been widely investigated and numerous programs have been developed in an effort to address and prevent the many forms of bullying that exist today. The negative effects of such an abusive behaviour are various and can greatly differ from individual to individual. However, there are three main consequences that can be associated with school bullying, which are: school avoidance, depression/anxiety and even suicidal attempts.

This is known as bullying. Bullying is defined as unwanted or aggressive behavior towards an individual that is usually repeated over time. The way someone views themselves is important to their character and way of life. If a person is constantly told that they are "ugly" or "worth nothing", it might shape them into what they see in the mirror on a daily basis. Problems usually have solutions. Solutions could be extremely easy to find, or the process of finding one could be problematic. One worldly issue that does not have a solution yet is bullying. Bullying is present in schools world-wide, and it has been this way since there have been schools. This horrible act is accepted as part of life. People are used to bullying, that it almost seems normal. This should not be the case. Bullying is a horrific act that needs to be stopped, but is that possible? Three specific ways people have proposed to stop bullying is to criminalize bully in an attempt to deter any further bullying, to assign bullies student mentors in order to have someone guide them, or to force school or parental figures to be more active in trying to prevent bullying. Bullying of students in school is an abuse that affects and produces a number of negative experiences on the victim. It is proven that those students who bully do so merely because they see themselves superior than those being bullied. They use this as a tactic to make juniors fear them and show them that they are not equal in any way. Some will even bully as a revenge of the bullying they suffered in the past. Bullying can be anything from calling someone else names, beating them up just for the fun of it, to texting or messaging them on the internet or any mobile device. Any person can be the victim of bullying, not just children. Bullying causes many issues, physically, emotionally, and mentally, not only for the victim, but for their entire families as well. Bullies have many different reasons as to why they start bullying someone else. The actions done to the victim leaves them with only a few options on how to stop being bullied. How they handle it is always different.
Thesis: Bullying is a serious problem in our society today. The victims of bullying are not the problem, the bullies are.
