Teen Suicide Suicide in today’s society is the second leading death in the United States. Each day there is 117 suicidal deaths. Each year there are 42,773 Americans that die from suicide, and half of them are done with firearm (asfp.org). Suicide is defined as “the act of killing yourself because you don’t want to continue living.” One question that runs through teenagers minds are ,” Should I be here or not?” The top 3 reasons for teen suicide is stress, bullying, and sexual abuse. When a teenager is sexual assault it does a lot of damage to the teenager. It not only makes them think of suicide, but can also haunt them for the rest of their lives. When a teenager is sexual assaulted it lowers their self -esteem and they begin to have trust issues. When sexually assaulted you begin to get depressed and want to know why it happened to you. Usually as a teenager the person that sexually assaulted you will threaten you, and the teenager will have to keep it to their self. And the teenager will want to be alone when you think about something that traumatic it begins to mess with your mind, and makes you have bad thoughts. Once this happens it usually leads to suicide. Teenagers feel as if that’s the easy way out. The victim feels like they are the only ones that are dealing with suicide. But in the United States there are 25 attempts a day. Do you think there is a prevention of teen suicide? Yes, I believe if people and bullies would open their eyes they would see the damage they are doing to America as a whole just by the number of suicidal deaths in the US. I feel like everyone should go to counseling. Teen suicide is a big hit right now in this day and time. If parents wouldn’t make their kids feel like they should be a certain standard, or bullies make fun of the way people look, or feel this world would be a better place, and we would have less suicidal deaths.
