Introduction The issue of marriage equality has been something I’ve been passionate about ever since I learned that my brother was gay. I support same sex marriage, however I was not raised to condone the lifestyle. My parents are conservative Christians, who believe that the sanctity of marriage is being destroyed by the homosexual agenda. Throughout this paper, I intend to use Edward Wright and Lee Moore to analyze how my parents conservative views influenced my positive view on marriage equality. I spent much of my life rebelling against their conservative nature especially with this topic. Information My brother and I have rarely seen eye to eye, but I always did my best to look out for him. If he was a heterosexual man, I would still take the same stance on marriage equality. The fact that my parents are highly conservative had a massive impact on my political philosophy. Conclusion The conservative views of parents have caused me to distance myself from their belief system. Throughout my adult life, I have made attempts to form better understandings of situations and not to let prejudices predetermine my actions. We see the world through different lenses, and I prefer to use acceptance to focus my view. Upon dissecting my views on same sex marriage, I think that becoming liberal was just my response to an argument that I could not win. I chose acceptance over intolerance. This philosophy has worked as a guide for my moral compass.
