Alcatraz Island vs. Pearl Harbor Everyone loves sightseeing and being tourists because observing beautiful places gives people an opportunity to relax and enjoy their moment away from home. Whether they are exploring new, exciting places where you live, or far away from home, sightseeing is one of the greatest pleasures to do in life. I have been to a numerous number of places across the world, and I have to say that Hawaii and San Francisco are both wonderful places to visit. Hawaii and San Francisco, two of the top ten tourist destinations in the United States that attract people from all over the world, resulting in the astonishing landmarks such as Pearl Harbor and Alcatraz Island.

When people talk about Alcatraz, they usually remember it is an island with a prison on it, but many do not know what is included inside the prison. Two common places inmates were in most of the time were either the dining hall, where the prisoners and staff would eat their meals, or a library in which inmates could check out books and magazines. The Models Industries Building contained a laundry facility, and the New Industries Building contained a clothing factory, dry cleaning plant, furniture plant, and a brush factory where prisoners could work and earn money. Prisoners had the chance to make items such as gloves, furniture mats, and army uniforms. Military officers were found in the dining hall since that was where they ate their meals, but they were also found in the other places as well. Former Military Chapel was a small building, where the ground floor had quarters for the officers and their families who worked at the prison. In 1920, when the building was first built, the top floor of the building was used as a school and chapel, but in 1934 when Alcatraz became a Federal Penitentiary, the building became a Bachelor Quarters for unmarried officers. Almost two million visitors from all over the world visit this attraction, exploring the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center and experiencing an unforgettable moment on the USS Arizona Memorial, and Battleship Missouri Memorial. Today, Pearl Harbor remains an active military base, Headquarters of the Pacific Fleet, and a National Historic Landmark with unique attractions. Pearl Harbor will always be a place where survivors and loved ones of those who died in the attack can reflect on the tragic event which led to war, and had an impact on an entire generation worth of people. Similarly, Alcatraz and Pearl Harbor are two different landmarks with a different story to each place. Alcatraz is more of experiencing the life of the prisoners and exploring an island full of exhibits, while Pearl Harbor is a place to recognize and remember those who died in the devastating attack created by the Japanese on December 7, 1941.
