9/11, one of the largest and most heinous single terrorist attack in history, claimed the lives of almost 3000 people. It consisted of four coordinated terrorists attacks which was enacted by Al-Qaeda, an Islamist terrorist group, in New York City, and Washington D.C. The four targets were the two World Trade Center buildings, the Pentagon and the White House. Three out of the four attacks were successful. The one heading towards the White House was foiled by the passengers, who retook the plane and crash landed it in a field. The reasons behind this act of terror have been traced to several different reasons, many of them direct actions done by the United States and the West. The first reason for the 9/11 attacks can be traced back all the way to the time of Muhammad, the founder of Islam and the “messenger of God, as well as Islam itself.
Much of the history of Islam has been obscured by a veil of fear and misunderstanding. This was caused by the fear of Islamic terrorists before, and mainly after, the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The history of Islam begins with the birth of Muhammad, who was born in the holy city of Mecca, in a time where warring tribes were constantly fighting over the scarce sources of water. Muhammad received the Qur’an from the angel Gabriel, and his most radical proclamation that came from God was that their was only one God. This meant that since their was only one God, their could only be one people. Over time, Muhammad and his followers took control of Mecca and much of the Arabian Peninsula. ...nd why 9/11 occurred.
9/11/2001 was one of the largest and most heinous single act of terror that ever occurred in modern history. It was enacted by the radical Islamist group Al-Qaeda, as an attempt to get Western influence out of the Middle East. This backfired on Al-Qaeda, since now the United States has several times more military bases and troops in the Middle East than we had prior to the 9/11 attacks. The United States has also increased its foreign aid towards Israel as well. The problem with this is that with our increased military presence in the Middle East, we are radicalizing more and more Muslims because of the civilian casualties all across the Middle East. The United States has created more terrorists in the Middle East than there were prior to 9/11. 9/11 was a direct result of Western and U.S presence in the Middle East. This is why 9/11 occurred.

As the United States continued to support Israel; Osama bin Laden and other Islamic believers followed their religious duty to make war with the United States government and citizens. Al Qaeda leaders chose to target the Twin Towers because it is the center of the financial district and symbolic to our nation. The Pentagon was a main target for it is the head-quarter of the United States Department of Defense. Like many other religions, the Muslim faith has experienced many changes and branches. Like Christianity, the original faith is still practiced by some, but others have started new branches with their own unique interpretation being Muslim. Despite these differences within the Muslim religion, one set of rules for moral guidance is central to all. These rules are the Five Pillars of Islam. The Five Pillars act as a moral compass for Muslims and are universally accepted as they are mentioned specifically in the Qur’an, the sacred Muslim book of God’s words as they were recited to Muhammad (Molloy, 425).
On September 11, 2001 terrorists crashed two American airline airplanes into Twin Towers, killing thousands of people. It was the worst terrorist attack in American history and it showed us that we are not protected by Atlantic and Pacific. It showed us that we could be attacked by anyone at anytime. The consequences were the tensions between Americans and Muslims rose. Numerous hate crimes were committed and there was a massive economic downfall. We could have avoided this incident if the airport security would have been more strict, then the attack would have a less chance of happening (Bantista). “Make no mistake, the United States will hunt down and punish those responsible for these cowardly acts. Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward. And freedom will be defended.” –President Bush directly after the 9/11 attacks (Tsimelkas).
