Is There Enough Education? Education is major part in today’s society, so why do students not have enough education? Yes, there are many things taught but not the important and everyday things we need in life. Elementary, middle, and high school are not to be seen as, “necessary requirements to pass to be something in life” there should be a time in life that offers lessons to avoid mistakes in life. Imagine a kid who has grown up thinking, I need to at least pass this class to get to the next grade level or I just need to remember this for now to be able to pass this session. How will these thoughts help the kid in his future if he feels like he needs to pass instead of actually learning the subjects being taught for his greater good? A good education is the foundation for society because it prepares people and students to have social mobility, to be independent, and to have a better future.
In the first place, education is very important when it comes to looking for a job and depending how much money they would earn based on their position. It may not seem like a lot, but it is now because of inequality against

Teaching necessary subjects would decrease their chances of having faults, such as, getting arrested for not paying taxes. In addition, programs that help students who live in poverty by helping their family out of poverty or giving them better education would be very beneficial (Right to Educate). Helping the people in need would give the person more time to go to school and get that education. Another way to avoid having a lack of education is by having teachers and parents give more advice and information to students (DeWitt). Parents should demonstrate important life lessons; for example, how to be organized for both school and
Education can help Americans receive a well paying job and lead to less low income families. A quality education allows people to feel accomplished and empowered to get a job that could help their family and their financial needs. According to an article by the Global Partnership, education reduces economic inequality and “If each [employee] from poor and rich backgrounds receive the same education, the disparity between poverty would decrease by 39 percent” (“5 Ways Education Can Help End Extreme Poverty”). In an article by William Bennett, states that American companies estimate that currently there are 3 million jobs available. The downside is that the children are poor and lack the education to fulfill those jobs. The government needs to provide more affordable schooling so that young adults can obtain a higher education to earn a higher salary. Currently, The U.S. Census Bureau reported that in 2014 the poverty rate of people twenty-five and older was 12 percent. Figure 1 demonstrates the statistic provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. It clearly displays that Americans who obtain more years of schooling and further their education, display a lower poverty rate. In 2014, those who have obtained no high school diploma show a greater poverty rate in relation to those who do have a bachelor degree. For example, Americans who have no high school diploma have the highest poverty rate at 29 percent. In contrast, Americans who have Bachelor’s degrees or higher, have the lowest poverty rate at 5 percent (“How does level of Education Relate to
According to The Principles of Economics by N. Gregory Mankiw, Harvard University, Thomson South Western publishing 2004, many studies have documented that the earnings gap between workers with high skills and workers with low skills has increased over the past two decades. A man with a college degree can earn up to 89% more than one without, for woman the figure is about 70%. The incentive to stay in school is as great today as it has ever been. Throughout the 70’s and 80’s students could graduate from high school with a promising future and many joined the labor force without attending college. Unfortunately as the market changes and the need for skilled labor increases, many adult workers are now faced with a decision. More and more high school students are moving on to college and the labor pool is becoming more skilled and competitive. Although years of experience can be used to combat this reality, many employers do not grant an interview unless a degree is present. If an individual becomes unemployed or would like to be considered for a promotion the percentage of success is rapidly decreasing.
Because we live in a knowledge-based society, meaning we judge based on knowledge, those with a higher level of education usually receive better pay, and a lower level of unemployment. In America knowledge is the scale our citizens are weighed upon, and the least complicated way to evaluate knowledge is through education level. It is statistically proven that the highest paying jobs require the highest degree (Bureau of Labor Statistics). To apply for a high paying white-collar profession, a college degree is required. Our social standing and advancement is dependent upon education. Jennifer Ludden states “Those with a degree make 17,500 more per year than those without” she also writes “Those without a degree are four times more likely to be unemployed”. With those statistics in mind it is no wonder Dakota Goforth says “In this generation you have to go to college. Like, it isn’t even optional.” (Ludden). Goforth’s mindset is kept by many American citizens. Americans are determined that a college degree is vital, and as it is not instantly accessible, those who provide the degree are able to decide the
The education system needs to make sure the students are learning and not just passing. Teachers need to teach outside the lesson and teach the students about real-life situations and problems that may occur to them outside of school. School is about learning the basic core classes but it is also for preparing kids for life and teaching them lessons. America's education system is failing their students today, for example in class the teacher said, “ who is the vice president?” the room grew quiet, teachers should discuss information like this with their students even if it has nothing to do with the lesson, it doesn't even have to be your history teacher. It is very obvious that the education has a lot of work to do because of its many
According to the authors of “Should Everyone Go to College?”. “23- to 25-year-olds with bachelor’s degrees make $12,000 more than high school graduates, but by age 50, the gap has grown to $46,500”. Now most Americans believe that people should try to make as much money as they can during their lifetimes. It is what Americans call the “American Dream.” Why not increase one’s wealth of knowledge and dollars? Education is so important in today's society. Many of the jobs for which people apply need some education after high school. Those are the jobs that are paying more money. Since these jobs are paying more, these employers want educated, well-spoken, and honest employees. Attending college can teach people so many skills and open so many doors for young people. There are so many new people connections and opportunities that someone will have attending a college that he might not get to experience if that person just gets a
Many are aware of the high qualifications necessary to get a - especially high paying - job in current times. In Source E, Hedrick Smith stated that in the seventies, “High school graduates were in demand” but today’s high school graduates are fortunate if they can find a job without any college degree. These opportunities are not only rare, but exclusively limited too! According to Source F, “there are gaps by race, gender, and children’s circumstances at birth.” The already limited opportunities available are going to those with privileges and advantages which are the people who need the opportunities the least. This is why the gap continues to
When it comes to achieving success in the working industry and accomplishing a successful career an education is important. Getting a degree is essential to be successful. The issue is the higher the education the person wants the higher the cost is. Nowadays, not everyone can afford paying out of pocket for an education, which mean that students are forced to take out large amount of student loans to achieve that degree. Student debt is an ongoing problem, students are gaining oversized debts that most of the time if not ALL are defaulting and jeopardizing future credits. How much debt it too much debt? Everyone should have the liberty to
Education is important because it prevents my friend Kenzie from becoming a stripper to support herself and her family. Education is important because it prevents my mother from becoming homeless. Education is important because it helps me bring food to the table. All of these are reasonable arguments as to why education is important. Although our society shouldn’t prioritize its importance based on of materialistic greed, it can’t pulled out of the equation completely. Some might say that capitalism is ruining our education system but that is simply not true. In like many ideology and other religious groups, there are always the extremists that blows things out of proportion. The system requires tests, homework, school assignment, for students
Children around the world are being educated every day but some betters then others. What point in life does one have the incentive to be educated? For many they have the desire to be educated when they are young and in school. Others don’t desire to learn until they are no longer children. The entire purpose of the education system is to obtain knowledge and learn at higher levels. Then why do people not want to learn when they are in school in today’s society? This lack of interest of motivation or emotional support from the teachers, family and School system could be keeping kids from wanting to learn. In his essay “School vs. Education,” Russell Baker seems to believe that our system of education needs great improvement in the way we go about educating are students in today’s society. Schools and parents need more support educating students in each different stage of education throughout their life.
An education is something that one can keep for a lifetime. Acquiring a good education can affect one’s personal life, one’s community, and one’s entire generation.
Education is essential for everyone. Education plays a critical role in the development of a generation of individuals that is virtuous and in turn contributes to the development of good people. Through education, a person is able to develop mentally, but also physically and socially. To the youths, education is important as it helps them to develop the principles of life, enables them to make the correct career decisions and also prepares them in the pursuit of the goals that they may have set for themselves in life. I strongly believe that a good, heck, or even a regular education is a right that cannot be taken away. Education is a right and not a privilege.
Education is a very important aspect of the lives of all people all over the world. What we learn, not just in the classroom, shapes who we are. We take our education everywhere we go. We use it when talking to our buddies about sports or music, we use it while solving a math problem, we use our education while debating with our family whether or not we should watch TV or go to the movies. Our education is the foundation of who we are, since every decision we make and every thought we think is dependent on what we know. Imagine how different the world would be if everyone craved learning to such a degree that at lunch tables all over the world the topic of conversation isn't who likes who, or how drunk someone got over the weekend, but it would be what books were read over the weekend, and what new ideas were thought of. This crave for learning would be an ideal but still suggests need for improvement with the current educational system. It seems that the problem with education is that somewhere along the lines the human race forgot (assuming they, at one point, understood how valuable information is) that learning is not just a mandatory process, but also an opportunity to transcend and open the gateway to a better understanding.
Are we utterly lost with our education system today? There is no concrete answer to these questions, and I don’t believe there ever will be. What we do know is that there are many current problems with education. Education is like wax, constantly morphing to the social constructs of humanity at the time. We currently live in an individualistic time, unaware of the power education holds. While many might think that social money and family determine classes; the class structure is built mostly around education. The difference between these three philosopher’s theories and today is that they all worked to uncover the true meaning of education. In the future, I hope that we will move toward an education system similar to Socrates theory. Today, many students see little to no meaning at all to education and merely see education as a means to success, wealth and power. We must encourage the study of these philosophers in our schools to help students understand how much power education holds. As Socrates described best, we, as students, must be the gadfly, and awaken our society to injustices and constantly question the world around us. Education is ultimately the best gift we could be given, and we should appreciate it and attempt to understand its foundations. By uncovering the truth behind education, I have found that education should be offered to all, encourage curiosity, and lead to a well-rounded
Education is a vital part of society. It serves the beneficial purpose of educating our children and getting them ready to be productive adults in today's society. But, the social institution of education is not without its problems. Continual efforts to modify and improve the system need to be made, if we are to reap the highest benefits that education has to offer to our children and our society as a whole.
Education should be a part of everyone's life. A good education offers something for everyone, whether it be on the simple level or a more complex one. Education should provide provide an opportunity for students to develop a strong sense of creativity, a high self esteem, and a life long respect for learning. Education should help students establish a strong sense of confidence in themselves. A teacher will be one factor that helps a student learn and progress along their way through life. Teachers combine their own ideas with other people's to be able to give a good education to their students.
