“Benefit all mankind” is the South Korea’s motto. A selfless motto, for a people who have suffered from being invaded by the North Korean communists 60 years ago. Once the cease fire began in 1953 between North and South Korea, they rose from it and became the proud country that it is today. It has fast growing economy and large technology industries throughout Asia. Also it has a modern democracy, and recently elected their first female president, Park Geun-hye. This shows that South Korea demonstrates stability and rapid growth every day and the U.S. should continue to be an ally for their trade, military, and environment security.

Also the definition of national security can be correlated with the environment as a principle that creates and maintains conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony. One major threat to the national security of South Korea is air pollution. Due to the escalation of pollution caused by rapid growth of industrial production South Korea is now facing dangerous risks. Air pollution is a main problem with national security because it hinders citizens to work efficiently due to constant illness from dangerous air particles. With new laws and restrictions to how much carbon emissions are being made by industries in both countries, it can help with diminishing smog in heavily polluted cities like Seoul, South Korea and San Francesco, California that causes severe health problems to its citizens. If the air pollution continues, then this can cause a major blow to their economy and our alliance. That’s why I have come to understand now that national security has to involve a partnership between the two countries in order to form a new direction in Environmental Security. U.S. has done the most damage in air pollution and is not a great example for developing countries. The economy would benefit because of the new clean technology, and companies can bring in millions of dollars in revenue and stimulate it by creating millions of jobs for both countries. The environment will benefit from this because the less companies use natural resources for their products the more time the environment can recuperate without going extinct. Overall, environmental security is a valuable investment because it allows growth in the economy, health, and environment, and partnering with South Korea and the U.S. will decelerate the air
Joint Security Area (JSA) is a South Korean film which deals with the relationship between North Korea and South Korea. In the film, two North Korean soldiers are murdered near the border. Sophie, an officer from the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission, investigates the incident. With evidence and information, she tries to find the truth of the incident. In JSA, the incident takes a place in 1999. North Korea and South Korea have been divided after the Korean War ends in 1953. Although around 50 years passed after the division, its influences remain and the film describes them. This paper is going to argue how JSA deal with the North Korean people and prospects of Korean reunification with referring to other resources.
North Korea stands apart from the rest of East Asia. They future I predict for North Korea is uncertain, they are on a road to disaster. East Asia is a well-populated booing area. The region’s economic growth is phenomenal; they are integrating technology, and making long term plans for the future. North Korea is the only exclusion. North Korea is poor, isolated, and appears to have little grasp in reality. North Koreas leadership is focused on dictatorship, and on tactical measures to make other countries believe they are superior. They video shows the poor conditions that every North Korean has to live in. They force their children to dance and do gymnastics, from my interoperation just in case a tourist comes. I anticipate a collapse in the North Korean government, and more severe economic downfall, and civil war to break out. I do not believe the old saying “history repeats itself”, what I do believe is we can learn from other countries mistakes. I think that North Korea should take a gander at Syria and take notes of the way protestor’s rebel against the central government.
Culture and language are intertwined and somewhat inseparable. Language determines how culture is delivered and passed down from generation to generation. The book suggest that language is the glue that holds self-perception, experiences, attitude and knowledge together (Appleby, 2011). This means that in order to fully grasp one’s culture you must first understand the
There are numerous national security interests with respect to North Korea. The two most important national security interests, their intensities, and the challenges around them are discussed in this paper. North Korea’s nuclear weapons program has become a credible threat to the national security of the United States.
...e than one way to live in the world and South Korea has shown that by keeping to their original identity given by the Chinese, has also built onto their values so that they have a place in the world. South Korea has learned that all humans are worth something and have value through the influence of the west and that daughters and women in general are just as good as men. The west has influenced South Korea for the better through their customs, ideals on women and men roles as well as given them more sense to their lives as a people.
Good Afternoon, I hope all is well and that you’re enjoying your Thanksgiving week. After reading this weeks assigned material, I assessed the North Korean Intelligence community as capable within their surrounding region, but marginally capable at an international level. The reason I have assessed them as marginally capable is because they lack the technical capabilities of reaching beyond their region. It was plain to see that their primary focus was on South Korea, Japan and the United States Military Installations. According to Pike, “North Korean intelligence and security services collect political, military, economic, and technical information through open-source, human intelligence, and signals intelligence capabilities (Pike
Language is a very important tool that permits us to communicate with others, and also it helps us to the development of culture, because “What we say influences what we think, what we feel and what we believe” (Budani, n.d.), so it can be said that from language people are able to transmit their thoughts, ideologies and beliefs and Also thanks to its culture can be transmitted and learned over the years through idioms and expressions of a particular place. Language allows the interaction between people from different contexts and creates social relations that create a cultural mix as
.... The two countries are reconnecting rail lines and sent a combined team to the Olympics. Even the United States is providing $500 million dollars a year in food to the starving North Koreans. Communist North Korea continues to be an underdeveloped country while South Korea continues to prosper in all areas such as technology, and agriculture. These two countries have vast differences with their political and government views. North Korea at one point was influenced by the Soviet Union but no longer. However, North Korea continues to be influenced by and receive aid from China. South Korea continues to be influenced by the United States of America. North Korea is governed and controlled by a dictatorship, which has complete control over media and social

South Korea, once a broken country filled with broken families, has transformed itself into a fine example of perseverance in a tough situation. South Korea and its neighbor to the north have developed past where they were before the Korean War, but in different ways. The two countries, while certainly dependent on each other, are vastly different. Their conflicting styles of government and their differing cultures speak for themselves in this case. South Korea has, over the years, changed dramatically from the crippled country of the Korean War into a blossoming beacon of Asian cultural and economic changes. The combination of its recent economic importance, its heavy cultural influence, and its constant danger of participating in a war makes South Korea one of the most influential countries in the world.
Language is a medium of communication and a carrier of culture because all that people know about their origin is communicated to them using language. In most cases mother tongues are suitable in expressing ones way of life. The native language is the best in expressing basic societal affairs. Language is the key medium of communication and it should be used in its simplest form because the simpler the language the easier the communication (Diyanni 633-639).
To understand this situation more fully, one must be given some background, starting in the early 1950s. Due to the harsh differences between the peoples of Korea, and especially due to the onset of Communism, the Korean War erupted and the nation split in half, with the Communist-supported Democratic People’s Republic in the north and those who favored democracy in the Korean Republic of the south (Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 2000). The two separate countries of North Korea and South Korea went their opposite ways, and each has experienced different fortunes in the past half-century. The South Koreans managed to recover from the turmoil of the 1950s and 1960s to become an economic power and a democracy supporter. On the other hand, North Korea can be viewed as a retro country, based first on a Communist ideology, laid down by leader Kim Il Sung and inherited by his son, the current dictator Kim Jong Il, then evolving into a totalitarian state (Pacific Rim: East Asia at the Dawn of a New Century). Today North Korea holds the distinction of being one of the very few remaining countries to be truly cut off from the rest of the world. Author Helie Lee describes this in her novel In the Absence of Sun: “An eerie fear crawled through my flesh as I stood on the Chinese side of the Yalu River, gazing across the murky water into one of the most closed-off and isolated countries in the world.” (1)
During the course of time, ideas or feelings develop as a society when confronted with different obstacles. Occasionally though, certain beliefs may also be forced onto a country during times of occupation or war. By the mid 20th century, a new Korea emerged after the Japanese invaded the country and officially took over in 1910 (Kimble, 1997). For 35 years, Japanese occupiers required the small nation to learn the Japanese language and forced an education system that caused the Korean culture to avoid its own history. The country would finally get the opportunity to get back on its feet after the Korean War that started in 1950 and lead to the current armistice between the Northern and Southern parts of Korea in 1953. After constantly being abused by the Japanese government and the communist regime of North Korea that nearly destroyed the character of the now acknowledged South Korea, the United States was able to end the Korean War. The army of South Korea is now highly supplemented with American forces. This limits the capabilities of a modern military that has depended heavily on a foreign military to defend its borders. Although seen as a negative effect of the Korean War, one might also say that South Korea has had sixty years to develop its own distinctive economy and infrastructure without the threat of attack from another conquering
South Korea has been a long time friend and ally of the United States of America. However, if this were to change there are many key factors that would need to be analyzed if war was to break out between the two countries. This is a brief look into some of the factors that make South Korea the country it is today and how it operates.
