The Free Rider Problem
The free rider issue has become one of the most serious economic issues today. The free rider is a lazy type person who wants the benefits that others bring in without having to do the work. The free rider typically takes advantage of a public good. Living in a civilized society presents many opportunities for free riding, which we have yet to find a way to control. Economists regard the possibility for free riding as a problem for the free market, which usually leads to government intervention. Government intervention is not generally needed in a free market society but in this case if there were no government intervention this problem would not find a solution.
The free-rider issue is often seen as a serious problem because of the assumption that a free rider's best self-interest is that they interact with others by force and fraud. If they can get away with the fraud and begin to gain the benefits of others they have reached their first goal. Their next goal is to make some good money or get credit for someone else's hard work before they get caught. Then they get out and are long gone by the time anyone notices. Life in a civilized society allows each of us the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of the work of people with productive ability far greater than our own, but what happens when people begin doing this? They get used to not having to do much work and become lazy. In some cases people look at welfare in this way. If a person is able to get a good job and chooses not to, but instead, to live on our government, this would be considered free riding. This causes a fluctuation in our market and it can have a negative effect. When the benefits go away people do not want to go back to work and eventually will loose their jobs or quit and become a true free rider. Clearly there is an essential difference between cases in which one can't contribute to the benefits one enjoys and cases in which one chooses not to make a contribution that is within one's power. But apart from this distinction, we can differentiate between harmless free riding and the worthless free riding. The free rider wants anything he can get for free and will think nothing of it if he can get away with it. Free riders take advantage of public goods without having to contribute to them. For example, if s...

...o make up the difference. This difference we have to make up is usually a higher tax. In raising the tax the price of the good goes up and when price goes up demand tends to go down. As the demand keeps falling and the price keeps rising the product usually ends up off the market and filing a chapter eleven. It typically does not go that far but this is an example of what could happen. A free market is a privilege to have and it is a shame people have to take advantage of it because they do not feel the need to work hard or to go out of their way to do something for someone else.
The free rider is a menace in our society and we do not need to let him take our money and put it to his use. We have found ways such as government intervention and price lids to help control the problem but we have yet to find a solution. Once a solution is found we will have fewer worries and possibly a true free market. These are very difficult problems to stop and may never be stopped. It will take a long period of time to begin the process to bring it to an end, but it will be nice to maybe some day have a true free market without the problem of a free rider.
Ronald Reagan once said, “We should measure welfare’s success by how many people leave welfare, not by how many are added.” Welfare began as a relief program in the 1930’s to assist those suffering from The Great Depression. In modern times, this system’s abuse rises every year. Social welfare spending causes people to abuse their free money; our government needs to revise the length of time for the benefits and who can receive this money.
For as long as I can remember, my childhood dream has always been wanting to become a veterinarian. While other kids were outside having fun at the playground, I was at the library reading books and learning about the different animals. However, as I matured, I realized that being a veterinarian isn’t just about caring for and assisting injured animals. Being a veterinarian means having the ability to make quick decisions in stressful situations, showing complete dedication and passion to this profession, and being able to effectively communicate to pet owners.
In addition to helping sick animals, another option for veterinarians is doing scientific research and trying to make new medicines (Fact Monster).
For some, welfare is a sign of weakness or idleness, but no one should be denied needed help. A life should not be cut short due to starvation, dehydration or sickness that can be stopped by the help of the government.
Veterinarians diagnose animal health problems. They vaccinate against diseases. They also treat wounds and medicate suffering animals with infections. They examine animals and determine what disease or infection they might have. They also educate people on diseases that can spread from animals to humans. Some of the medical equipment they use are stethoscopes, surgical instruments and diagnostic equipment. Some veterinarians work with human scientists to help research ways to treat various human health problems. (How to Become a Veterinarian.)
Veterinarians can be employed by government agencies and the food indudtry to cater to meat and milk producers to ensure that the herd is healthy and that the product is suitable for human consumption. These veterinarians deal with many animals like ovine (sheep), poultry, porcine (swine) and bovine
The United States’ welfare system is designed to help its citizens live regular and full lives with all the opportunities that higher class citizens are exposed to and to help the unemployed look for long-term work so financially, they can become stable. This assistance is very beneficial (especially to the lower class) but annually, thousands of cases of welfare fraud are committed. The poor do not realize that this program does them the favor and is not a requirement by the government. The welfare system is a great assistance to the needy but these programs do not enable the receivers to become motivated to get off the program; instead it makes them more dependent towards the welfare system and receivers tend to want more and more assistance as time goes on. If welfare fraud continues to occur, the United States should let the people that absolutely need it receive their assistance regularly and target those who need it less and make the qualifications for welfare more complicated and tedious so to make it harder for those to receive welfare benefits, to help prevent welfare fraud, and to make people less anxious to apply for welfare if they don’t need it as much.
In the past, sex was something that people tried to avoid talking about it, neither less teaching. Sex became a mystery, and a mystery would always trigger people’s nerves, especially teenager’s curious minds. That leads teenager at that time, who had no idea about sex, wanted to have sex to know about it. And when they had sex without any protection, they easily got STDs or HIV or even pregnancy. The case awakens society that sex education must be taught for students at the very first when they enter middle schools. But the way sex was taught those days was very much different from today. In the article “What the sex educators teach” posted on the Opposing View Point in Context website, Dana Mack has written about her experience when taking sex education class when she was a teen: “At the age of ten or eleven, girls and boys were herded into separate rooms - usually in the company of a parent. There, in industrial-gray pictures and solemn monotones, they were introduced to the world of gametes, ovaries, and menstruation. Not exactly titillating material, this reproductive information.” (Mack). Back in those days when sex was a newly revealed topic and sex education program had just been operated, people are still very shy to talk about sex and they often avoid having this kind of

Petrarch was a poet and a scholar in Renaissance Italy. “Petrarch is much admired as the first Renaissance man,” (Simpson 1). He is often acknowledged for commencing the Renaissance period. “Petrarch shaped a new sense of literary history and practice,” (Carlino 2). “He inaugurated the dialogical era,” (Celenza 10). He found a new way to write the language which was extremely different at the time. “Much of Petrarch’s well-groomed identity comes from his work in Latin,” (Carlino 2). He wrote most of his works in Latin.
Veterinarians are medical professionals whose goals are to improve the health and welfare of animals, protect public health and food safety, and better enhance environmental health. The specific work of veterinarians depends on their special interests. The majority of veterinarians work in private clinical practice, about seventy-four percent to be exact. The general public often sees these veterinarians. Even though most private practice veterinarians treat a variety of animals, about sixty percent only work on small animals, such as dogs and cats, as well as birds, reptiles, rabbits, and other animals that are kept as pets. Only about one-fourth of veterinarians work in mixed animal practices, where they see non-domestic animals such as sheep, pigs, and goats, while also seeing companion animals. Only ten percent of private clinical practice veterinarians work specifically with large animals, such as horses and cows. Veterinarians may also specialize in certain fields as physicians do. Surgery, internal medicine, anesthe...
To begin with, I need to be able to take care of any non-farm animal for this career. While watching over them, I have to check for any signs of injury, such as disease and other illnesses. The animal quarters have to be clean and suitable for them to sleep in. For example, I would have to clean a horse’s stable to make sure it is
Today, more than ever, there is great debate over politics and which economic system works the best. How needs and wants should be allocated, and who should do the allocating, is one of the most highly debated topics in our current society. Be it communist dictators defending a command economy, free market conservatives defending a market economy, or European liberals defending socialism, everyone has an opinion. While all systems have flaws and merits, it must be decided which system is the best for all citizens. When looking at both the financial well being of all citizens, it is clear that market economies fall short on ensuring that the basic needs of all citizens are met. If one looks at liberty and individual freedom, it is evident that command economies tend to oppress their citizens. Therefore, socialism, which allows for basic needs to be met and personal freedoms to be upheld, is the best economic system for all of a country’s citizens.
...hose that need them it is impossible. If the government is going to provide things it needs money to do so, and where does that money come from, taxes. Therefore the medication, housing, food and other benefits allotted to those on the welfare system are paid for by masses who actually do work and make something of themselves. Those receiving those benefits either don’t see or don’t care about the cost it puts on the rest of society, and fall into the hole of letting life come to you on the silver platter at the cost of someone else. Hard work is something considered antique, a thing of our grandparents with too many willing to forsake it for a life that isn’t of the highest quality but is of the lowest effort. The rise of the welfare state spells the end of America as we know it, the end of the “land of opportunity” and the beginning of the land of poverty.
There are a variety of duties and tasks that veterinarians do. Since they never know what they will be doing that day they have to always be prepared for whatever walks in the door. People think that they just check over an animal and tell the owner what they are doing well and what they need to fix, but veterinarians do much more. They have to determine diseases, prescribe medications, prevent diseases, collect data from animals, interpret new problems, set bones, dress wounds, and many more things that. The list goes on and on because they never know what they need to do. Those are some of the simpler things this occupation has to handle. More of the complex tasks of this job would be delivering newborn animals, performing surgery, interpreting x-rays, and many more things that are also too extensive to include. These are just things that involve solving the problems of animals. Most people don’t realize that veterinarians have to attend lectures, conferences, and meetings so they can continue learning about new things they need to preform.
