he Sex Offenders Registry

It is no secret that the issue of punishment of sex offender is steadily growing. From what kind of sex crime was committed, to who committed it , the bottom line is we need change. The main argument that people bring up now a days is that if you commit a crime, then you should suffer the consequences and face your punishment , and I totally agree. But when you start going overboard and start making people publicly display there long gone past, then you start to have problems. To name a few, inability to find a job, inability to find a place to stay, and last but not least the person’s overall character is destroyed.
In 1989 all sex offenders were required to register in the state of North Carolina. Shortly 5 years later in 1995 the same people or sex offenders were required by law to have a publicly displayed signs in the front yard of their homes(stated as evidence in the article “Are Sex Offenders Being Punished Too Bluntly?”). The main thing that stood out to me in this document was the picture of a sex offender 's home and the sign in front of it which reads “Danger”!!! in big words, “Registered sex offender lives here.” Somewhat of an understanding could be made if the word danger wasn’t posted in big words. The reason why is because when a person see’s the word Danger it automatically triggers the sense of an immediate threat nearby, which may very well be the case with a released sex offender ,but also stated in the same article towards the end , out of all the sex offenders released in 1994 by 1997 only 78 of them or 2.5% of them went back to rape. There was a total of 3,138 rapist.Of all of the sex offenders released, there isn’t a great enough threat towards society for the government to ...

...y problems, but the hard factor that people are going to have to overcome is the fear of the unknown. The fear that a person that was previously convicted of a sex crime will get out of jail and go back to sexually assault or rapeing people. They have every right to ask that question and be concerned about it, but you have to also think of the REHABILITATED. The consequences they have to face are not good for their character nor is it good for their well being. Ever since we started discussing the sex offender registry a very unique question keeps coming up that I would like you to ask yourself. Is it right that a man that commits murder, serves his time in jail, gets out ,and is granted all of his rights? He doesn 't have to let the public know about his past, nor does he have any living restrictions ,yet most people would consider murder a more lethal crime.

Adolescent Sex Offenders Essay

- There are many topics nowadays that are still hard to talk about openly. Though we’ve opened the door on many controversies, some of the simplest parts of life can be the hardest to discuss. For most of us, sex in particular can be a taboo topic, which may be the reason why so many children and teens are misinformed on the inner workings of sexual relationships and how they develop as we grow and mature. For some adolescents, this can lead to an unhealthy fixation on the concept of sex, and in some cases, lead them to take action on a situation they do not fully understand....   [tags: Adolescents, sex, offenders]

Should Sex Offenders Be Offenders? Essay

- Life after Prison When most people think of individuals that have been labeled sex offenders in their area, there is not much remorse or empathy felt toward them. All sex offenders are characterized as child molesting sex enthusiasts when in reality, that’s not always factual. When a person commits a crime qualifying them as a federal sex offender, their life has changed forever in the worst way. The magnitude of the crime has been almost always irrelevant and treatment is level in the eyes of the law....   [tags: Sex offender, Sex offender registration]

Sex Offenders And Sexual Offenders Essay

- Sex Offender Population There is no “standard” sexual offender. Child molesters and rapists come from a multitude of backgrounds and are most often seen as law abiding individuals. In most cases, offenders are male; however, there have been cases of females committing sexual offences reported in the past (Schaffer, Jeglic, Moster & Wnuk, 2010). This treatment manual will focus on the male sexual offender population; they may vary in age, from youth to senior citizens. Essay about Juvenile Offenders And Sex Offenders

- When the general populace hears the words “sex offender” or “sexually based offense” the image that is almost instantaneously conjured up is negative, typically involving an adult male, and may include images of rape, sex trafficking, “stranger danger,” or other grotesque sexual misbehaviors. The assumptions the general public tends to make regarding sex offenders are often based on highly publicized stories, personal biases, or other assumptions, and not necessarily on statistical information. The general public may often assume that the majority of sexual offenses are perpetrated by an adult stranger, and therefore, they are safer with people they know, however, research indicates that cas...   [tags: Sex offender, Human sexual behavior]

Sex Offenders And The United States Essay

- Sex offenders in the United States (U.S.) are considered to be the worst of the worst. They are at the bottom of the food chain in prison culture and are considered to be worse than murderers and rapists. This is very evident in Florida where they have the most restrictive sex offender registration and sentencing laws in the nation. No matter how minor the crime a sex offender in Florida is registered for life, and after release from prison must register in-person with local sheriff’s department (Do Florida sex offender registration requirements go too far?)....   [tags: Sex offender, Human sexual behavior]

Teens, Sex, and Virginity - Teenage Pregnancy Essay

- Teenage Pregnancy        Teenage pregnancy has always been present in society. There is research stating that about half the women, born between 1900- 1910, who were interviewed were non-virginal at marriage (17 Ravoira). This contradicts some thoughts that premarital sexual behavior is something new. There was another study done in 1953, it found that one fifth of all first births to women were conceived before marriage (17 Ravoira).
