“’Is renewable energy an economically viable option for South Africa?’’ For me it is, but you would need to consider many other factors such as will it pay off for our Nation in the long run, and in my opinion, it does!
Many of the world’s nations rely only on coal (South Africa being one of them) which is harmful to the environment due to the fact that it is a fossil fuel and is also limited, meaning in the future we will need to turn to an alternative source to generate power. There are also many types of Renewable energy sources such as: Solar Power, Geothermal energy, Wind Power and Hydropower.
The Sun is a great source of energy because it is the most powerful energy source and you can set up many solar panels. It will cost you a lot but in my opinion it will save lots of money in the future and will save time, rather than mining for fossil fuels such as coal. Burning Fossil Fuels also produce a greenhouse gas which contributes to global warming. (West, Top 7 renewable energy sources, 2014)
Geothermal Energy is a great way to power generators by the hot steam brought up by the hot air in the earth. Obviously it will cost a lot to put many wind turbines, solar panels and Hydroelectric and Geothermal generators into place but these small changes could move South Africa one step closer to a much brighter future. We need to think now about the road ahead and put in place systems that will assure us a decent standard of living in the soon to come future. (West, 2014)
South Africa is planning to get most of its generated energy from Solar Energy, which I think is a very wise idea.
South Africa has a projected 10 000 GWh of Renewable Energy. South Africa plans on producing 1 850 MW with onshore wind, 1 450 MW (MW means Million Watt...

...g green! This is one step forward in the right direction and will open many doors for South Africa such as large companies around the world looking to expand in South Africa which will bring in even more money for the Country which will benefit the people (Keeping in mind the Government puts it to good use and plans on improving infrastructure, roads etc.).
These small changes will move us forward and will show other Nations that South Africa are going green and are willing to do what’s right for the people and most importantly the environment. And also moving away from the reliance on a polluting substance like a fossil fuel such as coal and we will be able to use renewable resources that can be re-used over and over again without the hassle of digging and mining into the earth to find these resources. All this is a very big solution to move South Africa forward.

Is Renewable Energy a Viable Option for South Africa? Essay examples

- Renewable energy is energy that comes from sources that are restored naturally on a human timescale. This includes: sunlight, waves, tides, water, rain and geothermal heat. Roughly 16% of the world’s energy consumption is supplied by Renewable sources. Wind Energy Wind energy is the form of renewable energy that converts the wind energy from the wind currents into energy that can be useful to man. This is done using windmills (for mechanical energy), wind turbines (for electricity), sails (to direct ships) and wind pumps (for drainage or water pumping)....   [tags: wind energy, hydroelectric energy]

Is Renewable Energy an Economically Viable Option for South Africa? Essay

- Is Renewable Energy an economically viable option for South Africa. South Africa mainly focuses on producing and making energy from mining coal. Although this is very effective and has been used for a very long time. The problem is that fossil fuels are limited because of the time needed to create them over millions of years and the tones of pressure that needs to be applied to form fossil fuels. The process in South Africa goes as follows, first deep mines are dug out to reach and get all the fossil fuels, which is a very big negative because of the high risk of injury and death cases, one of the other negatives is also that it has a large impact on the environment with all the unwanted dus...   [tags: wind turbines, fossil fuel]

Essay about Renewable and Non Renewable Energy

- Energy can be put into two broad categories Renewable energy and none renewable energy. Renewable energy sources can be reused continually as they are abundantly found in nature. All of them are non-polluting but devices used to collect the energy may impact the environment adversely. They are free but producing storage equipment or converting them into another form of energy may be costly. The examples of using renewable energy are The Solar Panel which is an assembly of solar cells. The solar cells convert solar energy into electrical energy....   [tags: wind turbine, coal]

What´s Renewable Energy? Essay

- firstly what is renewable energy. “Renewable energy is generally defined as energy that comes from resources which are naturally replenished on a human timescale.” my own definition of renewable energy is energy that can be used over and over again without dying off. Hydropower, wind energy, solar power and geothermal energy are all renewable energy sources. hydropower functions by using energy from water, making it fall down a certain distance and that then turns a turbine which collects the energy and turns it into electrical energy....   [tags: hydropower, solar energy]

Economic And Political Landscape Of South Africa Essay

- Large-scale Gold Mining, and later industrial manufacturing, molded the economic and political landscape of 20th century South Africa. The need for cheap, low-cost labor created the necessity for black laborers within the concentrated mining and manufacturing areas in the Transvaal and the East Cape respectively. However, the racial climate of South Africa meant that the conflicting interests of whites in power, as well as the black South African population, would regularly find themselves at odds over government policies created by the racial-infused politics of early South Africa....   [tags: South Africa, Black people, White people, Africa]
