Nursing is a profession I have always viewed with respect and appreciation. Adult nursing appeals to me because it will allow me to work with a diverse set of patients. I have been drawn to the profession for two main reasons: I’ve always had the ambition to help make positive impacts on a person’s life and I am always eager to learn new skills and experiences, and I believe the field of nursing allows me to do this. During my course we have studied numerous units. ‘Values and Planning’ has taught me how to write basic care plans, how care procedures and assessments are carried out and the importance of evaluating and focusing on the needs of the patient; this is all a part of an adult nurses’ responsibilities. ‘Anatomy and Physiology’ encouraged …show more content…

Competence is something I demonstrate on a daily basis, where I help support homeless young adults aged 16-24; I plan lessons which cover life skills, these lessons lead them to gain vital skills and AQA certificates which they can use to help progress their lives. For over 1 ½ years now I have been a sales assistant at Clarks which shows that as a person I am dependable and committed. During my time there I have dealt with both challenging adults and children. When receiving feedback for customers I have been praised that I am approachable and compassionate. During shifts it can be busy which demonstrates that I am capable of working in stressful environments and under pressure, and working as a team is important. Adult nurses are a key part of the multidisciplinary teams when looking after patients. I am also attending the Preparation for Nursing which is a 10 week programme; this involves me working on Ward 24 (Gastrointestinal and Liver services) at Royal Preston Hospital and also attending lectures. My time on the ward has allowed me to experience what adult nurses do on a daily basis. I was able to: record food and fluids charts, learn how to record urine output, attend to patient’s needs, join in with handovers and do many other tasks that were given to me. The lectures also allowed me to expand my knowledge and understanding of what nursing involves;
