A vegetarian is someone who maintains a diet of only ingesting grains, vegetables and fruits. They do not eat any type of meat that came from an animal that was slaughtered (“What is a Vegetarian”). However, a few wind up consuming dairy products and eggs. Starting this type of diet is one way to initiate an improved lifestyle. When establishing a more suitable lifestyle, it helps individuals to be protected from cancer and heart problems this type of diet also helps with weight loss. People choose to become a vegetarian for a variety of motives and it is all related to feeling marvelous about the choices that they compose on a daily basis to accomplish an improvement on the quality of their life.
One of the reasons they are determined to start a diet like this one is because of health related issues. They understand that it will be beneficial to reduce the probability of getting a heart disease, such as a coronary artery disease, or cancer. Cardiovascular diseases kills thousands of Americans each year; however, this type of disease exists in lower numbers in vegetarians than it is in nonvegetarians. Some of them do it to change their eating habits, which is overall a good and healthy action to make. Moreover, the change in food intake that they consume helps them lose weight, which is another reason vegetarianism is given a try. With this being said, individuals that consume more plant based foods have a lower probability to become obese and are at lower risk to get health threatening diseases.

Foodborne illness is a common public health problem that is caused by food that has been contaminated by either bacteria, viruses, or parasites. Accordingly, every year “1 in 6 Americans gets sick by consuming contaminated foods or beverages” (“Foodborne Illnesses”). Contagious animals are the most common cause for this type of food poisoning. The foods that are generally “rich in protein such as meat, poultry, fish and seafood” are oftentimes involved in foodborne illness outbreaks (“Why go Veg?”). Although it can be treated, it can also be prevented by choosing the correct types of foods being consumed. Vegetarians are typically on the safe side in this situation according to the foods they eat.
