What is the most popular smartphone on the market? Smartphones are widely becoming a popular technology among teenagers, adults, and seniors simply because the user can do just as much on their smartphone as a desktop computer or laptop. A smartphone can be to its user more convenient and less confining than the computer or laptop. Therefore, it is fair to say that almost everyone has one, or has talked about owning one; most people find they cannot live without their smartphone. Owning a smartphone is not cheap. With so many different options to choose from, the cost of owning a smartphone can add up quickly. There are so many different accessories and data plans that can be added. Cellular companies charge for how much data is used, which can be broken up into phone calls, texts, and applications. Most carriers give 2-gigabyte data limit but one can upgrade for more and so up goes the price. If one exceeds the data limit, carriers will charge extra to one’s monthly bill. Data plans are sold in bulk and therefore force buyers to buy more than what is needed. About 38 percent of users do not use their portion. There is a lock in of a 2-year contract on most phones and a cancellation fee if you break the contract early. Times are changing to where companies such as Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile now allow users the freedom to upgrade to an one-year contract instead of a 2 year contract which may save a little money; however, Consumer Report says, “that many users stick with their carrier even if they are not satisfied” and thus are still paying the high prices to own the phone. Insurance is another option to consider. Consumers insure their smartphones just in case the unthinkable happens such as lost, broken, or water damaged. J.K. Shin is credited as the spokesman for this phone but not too many people know about J.K. Shin, who some say is Samsung’s Steve Jobs (Bloomberg). The Galaxy S5 is Samsung’s latest flagship phone released in April 11, 2014. It comes in four colors, shimmery white, charcoal black, copper gold, and electric blue. It has a modern design and perforated pattern on the back of the phone. The S5 features various camera modes such as HDR mode to improve your pictures or video in low light environments, a fast auto focus that allows you to capture movement more efficiently and in focus, and selective focus this allows you to place focus on the main subject and blur anything in the background. Additional special features for the Galaxy S5 are Ultra Power Saving mode, a Heart Rate sensor, and being IP67 certified. The ultra power saving mode is having the ability to make your screen, change to black and white and to shut down any unnecessary tasks that may go on in the background to reduce battery consumption. The heart rate sensor is positioned on the back of the phone slightly under the camera, to activate it you will need to go to the S Health application to monitor your heart rate.
