involvement with the church. I was able to witness this through observing the congregation’s participation in Mass and the respect they showed for their priest.
According the Vatican (n.d.) it is important that in the church and within the community the priest is available to support and guide people in the faith and love of Christ. It is the priest’s responsibility to guide individual’s whether they are apart of his church or not. The priest also has the responsibility “of teaching, governing and providing the sacraments in a given congregation" (Brom, 2004, p. 3). From what I witnessed during this experience, it is clear that the priest is revered in his community. It was obvious when observing communion how much the congregation respected the priest and viewed receiving the blessing or taking the sacraments as a very important, holy event.
In my reflection prior to my experience, I mentioned that I thought the pope was a very high elder that the Catholic church honours. The pope is regarded as “the spiritual head of the Roman Catholic church” (Rostow, 1968, p. 3). It is the Pope’s responsibility to be a teacher to the public, and “mediate essential ideas which inform his Church” (Rostow, 1968, p. 13). The pope is the highest elder in the Roman Catholic church and is revered around the world (Rostow, 1968).

In any type of health care setting, it is important that the individual feels comfortable to possess artifacts of their faith. In the long term care setting, and on chronic care floors in the hospitals, I have seen individual’s display the crucifix in their room. After research I learned that this artifact reminds the individual of the sacrifice Jesus made for them. I believe it is important that client’s continue to feel comfortable displaying artifacts of their faith that may bring them
