Do you ever wonder how many times you use a light bulb? Do you ever think how your life would be without light bulbs? Well, without the invention of the light bulb, our lives would be completely different than it is today. Furthermore, just by the help of most of the oddly shaped, wired figures have helped a vast variety of people to conquer the day and we hardly even realize it. The light bulb was invented somewhere in the 1800s by a man named Thomas Alva Edison. Thomas Edison is one of the most powerful human beings who ever lived. Without his creation of the light bulb, the world would possibly not be where it is today. Thomas Alva Edison is one of the greatest American inventors. He was born on February 11th, 1847 in Milah, Ohio. He attended …show more content…
He invented the "talking machine" by accident while working on telegraphs and telephones. The first words he recorded were "Mary Had A Little Lamb". Scientist began trying to invent a source of light for people to use instead of candles and gaslights, but gaslights were smelly and smoky. Edison was sure that he could create a source of light that was safe, mild, and inexpensive electrical light for everyone to use. Edison needed the right type of wire that would produce good light source through it. He sent people in the Amazon and forests of Japan to try to find the right type of wire material. Edison tested over 6,000 vegetable growths (bay wood, boxwood, hickory, cedar, flax, and bamboo) as wire material. Edison spent $42,000 and tried 1,200 different experiments until in 1879 he finally succeeded. He made a light bulb using carbonized filaments from cotton thread. Carbonized thread is ordinary cotton sewing thread that has been burned to an ash. The light bulb burned for two days. The electric light took the greatest amount of time and required the most complicated experiments of all his experiments. Teachers said he was "too stupid to learn anything." He was fired from his first two jobs for being "non-productive." Now Thomas Edison proved them all wrong with his …show more content…
His invention is still prospering and getting better. Thomas Edison was a great very brilliant man who changed the world with his inventions. Without Thomas Edison it possibly would have taken a while for people to invent a type of light source. Thomas Edison went through many downfalls, one being the amount of time it took him to create the light bulb. He also with through many achievements, like people around the world started buying light bulbs and the awards that were given to him. "I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000
The light bulb changed how we lived now. Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, as he grew up he was learning so much knowledge for chemistry and electronics, and his 40 years of research to get the light bulb to work. Thomas Edison is an inventor of major technology. Threw his years he had studied many books by his parents and been reading many books on chemistry and electricity. The more he grew up he started to pursue his education on chemistry and electronics for many years. The more he tried to invent things he had help making of the light bulb with a group of scientists. Thomas Edison is the one who made the light bulb become possible by pursuing more education.
One of the most well known technological innovator and manufacturer was Thomas Alva Edison. He invented many devices which are still being used today, with some modifications. He even built a vote-recording device before he was twenty-one. Some inventions were the phonograph, incandescent light bulb, and the kinetoscope, which was much like a motion picture camera. In total, he has patented 1,093 inventions. He earned the nickname “The Wizard of Menlo Park”.

Some of his inventions include the photograph, the motion picture the electrographic vote recorder, and his most famous invention the light bulb. Thomas edison started working on his igea of a light bulb in 1878. He envisioned it as a oil and gas based light that would be longlasting that could be used indoors instead of having to use the outdoor light. He based his ideas on other people's inventions such as Henry Woodward and Mathew Evans. He found that there were many flaws with where light sources and planned on creating a whole different approach to building his light build that would fix all on the problems. Thomas Edison light bulb consisted of a carbon filament. It took him many tries before he successfully tested his lightbulb which lasted thirteen and a half hours. His carbon light bulb became a patent on November 4, 1879. Even though the light bulb was already patent Thomas Edison still found more ways to improve it. He discovered that carbonized bamboo filament could last 1,200 hours, so Edison decided to form the Edison Electric Light Company where he could publicly sell his new light bulbs and have access to new supplies where he can improve and manufacture his carbon light bulbs. Thomas edison created a whole new way of access to working and living environments that impacted history in a great
He built an industrial research laboratory in West Orange, New Jersey, and this was the main research laboratory for the lighting company. He spent all of his time here until he realized it all could not be all done by one person. Thomas never stopped inventing or working. He became a well-known business man. He still invented throughout his later years. He had a major impact on this world and the economy. Thomas and his second wife spent the rest of their lives at their winter retreat in Fort Meyers, Florida. Thomas Edison passed away October 18, 1931 at the age of 84 years old. Now you can see that Thomas had a very good child and was a hard worker as a teenager. His invention of the universal stock printer was a popular and much needed invention and as you all know the lightbulb has been one of the most important inventions in
Instead, most of his inventions were made using electrical energy. In 1878 he dedicated almost two and half years of his life to invent incandescent electric lighting. He was granted a patent for the famous light bulb in 1880. That same year he founded the Edison Illuminating Company and then left Menlo Park to travel around the globe. He visited different cities, offering his consultation services to local union councils and electrical companies on how to implement electrical systems.
The light bulb is the way we see in the dark, the way we find our way, the way we know when to go at a stoplight. How did Thomas Edison achieve this invention? Knowledge. Knowledge of electricity and the needs of those around him. In The Great Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan claims that she wants her daughter to be “a beautiful little fool.” In other words Daisy is saying that ignorance is bliss. Some others believe that knowledge is power. The advancement from candles to light bulbs changed the culture entirely. People could easily do the work they needed to after sunset, and it even led to more inventions. We need knowledge to advance, and for this reason powerful knowledge is more valid than blissful ignorance.
Thomas Edison is also an inventor. He invented a lightbulb that banished the darkness. In the video it shows that Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb which was the first lightbulb. This shows that Thomas Edison invented something that changed the world by banishing the darkness, so just like the first telephone and the even better telephones changed the world by banishing the silence because people can now talk for hours without going anywhere. Also in the video, Thomas Edison invented something that not only changed the world but benefited all. This proves that the lightbulb is a product that lets everybody see in the dark. So now inventors try to invent something that would change the world and also benefits
Thomas Edison an American inventor one of the greatest inventor of all time, he created many things but one of his masterpieces was the light bulb.
“I find out what the world needs. Then I go ahead and try to invent it (Sullivan 5).” These are the word that Thomas Alva Edison lived his life by. This is why he is known as the greatest inventor in Americas history. Thomas was granted 1093 patents over his life time. Some of the main inventions that changed the world are the electric light bulb, phonograph and movie camera and projector and much more(Jenkins 1). Thomas Edison is well known for his invention of electricity but he has made many more contributions to society.
In conclusion Mr. Thomas Edison was a great inventor which enhances my everyday life with his unbelievable inventions. If Thomas Edison never invented the lightbulb who knows what the world would be like today. I think that Thomas Alva Edison was a great inspiration and inventor to many people today.
From a discovery made by one of his associates, he patented the Edison effect (now called thermionic diode), which is the basis for all electron tubes. Edison will forever be remembered for his contributions to the incandescent light bulb. Even though he didn't dream up the first light bulb ever crafted, and technology continues to change every day, Edison's work with light bulbs was a spark of brilliance on the timeline of invention.
Thomas Edison is widely regarded as one of the most influential inventors and innovators of the Twentieth Century. Edison’s efforts ushered in a new era of technology; a world in which electricity would be harnessed and made to bow before man’s will. Walter Lippman wrote, “It is impossible to measure the importance of Edison by adding up the specific inventions with which his name is associated” (qtd. in Baldwin 409). Edison’s decades long career was a synergistic melding of his success as an inventor and his prowess as a promoter and businessman. He exemplified the ideals of intelligence married to hard work and perseverance. He forever changed the landscape of American invention and the limits of technological change (Baldwin 409).

He also built the Edison Electric Light Company to find a way to use electricity to light the incandescent bulbs. In 1882, Thomas Edison used his incandescent bulb in all the office buildings and houses on the Pearl Street. Many people came to the Pearl Street to see the all of the buildings and houses are light with electricity. This was a great achievement in Thomas Edison’s life. Thomas Edison became a rich and famous person.
