JL Audio
For this assignment, I chose to interview JL Audio cofounder Lucio Proni. JL Audio is a consumer/professional audio manufacturer located in Miramar Florida that produces speakers for boats, cars, and home sound systems.
Lucio Proni is an engineer and cofounded of the company with his high school buddy Jim Birch. During the mid-1970’s when they were on their summer break from the University of Florida, Lucio and Jim decided to mess around with component speakers and wound up building home loudspeakers for fun. They worked out of a garage in Lucios home and showed some of their speakers to their friends and some. Later on, a few of them even bought some, so they built a couple more to sell on the flea market. Lucio’s early success inspired him to start a speaker business so he could make a living from his work. In 1975, he joined fellow business partner and friend, Jim Birch and founded JL Audio; their company name being an amalgamation of the first letters of their names. They didn’t really start out their business with a solid business plan, their early days were instead marked by a lot of trial and error. At first they tried to sell JL Audio products to local audio shops. They found some success doing this since a couple of the loca shops were interested in selling their home speaker systems and kits. In 1977, business became scarce and they encountered financial difficulties as a result. In troubling times like this, it was Jims’s business skills, Lucio’s quality workmanship, and their combined tenacity that got them through it all. As a child, Lucio was given some valuable advice from his father; he said that “if you’re not willing to put your heart into something, then don’t bother doing it”. This work philos...

Self-made men built up through hard work and perseverance, do exist and this does actually pay off at the end of the day. It’s quite honestly refreshing to find honest men who made great strides in an industry without the use of any tricks or traps. If I’ve learned anything from this interview it’s that if you really set yourself to succeed and are passionate enough about something to keep fighting when things get tough then you can actually make it. This interview has not only been educational it’s been quite inspiring as well. Thank you for your time.
Peter Sawchyn started Sawchyn guitars back in 1980 and he specialized in custom, handmade mandolins and guitars. When Peter was a teenager, he developed a passion for making guitars all while having no previous training nor desire to make them. During this time, he was able to make his very first guitar on his own. Peter, who is now a 57 year old lifelong entrepreneur, has gained a fair share of experience since his teenager days and is now known by many musicians all over the world. In the case, it explains that Peter also focuses mainly on sound quality and design rather than mass producing like other music businesses. There is no computerized machines to do the work, rather he does it all my ear and designs all his guitars
Sonance is a well-established company providing high quality customized speakers for in-home entertainment. After launching their Sonance 1 model, they progressed into multi-room amplification and eventually designed the first built-in system that would support the iPod. Operating as a lean organization with only 60 employees, they relied heavily on a network of dealer and installer word-of-mouth advertising. By 1999 Sonance had reached $46 million in sales. Similar to other companies affected by innovations in technology, Sonance was forced to change strategic direction in the early 2000’s. The newly acquired leadership needed to redefine marketing efforts in response to increasing low cost competitors. Major
The United States has always been viewed as a land of opportunity, where one could achieve anything they put their mind to, no matter who they are. Freedom and economic stability are the factors that make our country appealing. People are hopeful that the opportunities the country holds will help them achieve the American dream. This dream consists of achieving financial success, but time has proven that the American dream is a rare occurrence. Unfortunately, ambition, hard work, nor perseverance are enough to be successful in America. No individual is guaranteed success or destined for failure, but it is apparent that women, people of color, and those born into poverty will face greater obstacles than others,

The American Dream is starting to become just a dream- People are not believing in the American Dream
Nearly everyone has the desire to be successful in their lives, whether it be measured in the amount of wealth a man owns or the accomplishments he has made in his life. Therein lies the most common, the success in a man's profession. There are multiple approaches to this connotation of success where a wide range of techniques can be applied. One might think that the only way to reach a particular level of success is to take on a competitive nature and achieve that coveted position of number 1. However, being competitive does not necessarily insure that a person is ‘successful.’ They must be competent in their field to reach the top spot. An example of these two sides can be found within Arthur Miller’s Death of A Salesman using the characters Willy and Bernard.
As decades pass, Florida’s population continues to grow and change rapidly. Being from both Dominican and Puerto Rican decent, the difficulties Latin Americans encounter become obvious. Trying to make a comfortable living in any Hispanic country is not an easy task. Many Spanish families, for that reason, decide to move to the United States for a better standard of living. And many of these individuals have been able to achieve their goals in life considering their minority roles in our country. Since Florida is the first peninsula most travelers come across when arriving into the U.S., the individuals find themselves to stay. South and Central Florida have especially been common areas for Latin families. Therefore, having so many successful Hispanics around, can be very inspiring to a person.

The land of the free and the home of the brave are renowned for its freedoms that enable its citizens to pursue their own happiness. America is portrayed by many as the country where your dreams can finally be fulfilled with hard work and perseverance. The daunting truth behind the American dream is that not everyone’s fantasies can come true. Making it in America without any help is a fallacy, the only true success stories today are those standing on the backs of the individuals that got them there. Making it in America does not occur the way it did in the past, the American dream no longer exists!
