1. A response to the interpretation of Acts 4:32–36 as an endorsement of a type of communal living as being normative for the Christian church.
a. Which rule of interpretation was broken, ignored, or violated?
The rule of Biblical interpretation that has been broke here is that no doctrine is to entirely be based off one passage of Scripture from the Bible. Along with that no verse or phrase can or should be allowed to have a meaning when isolated that it would not have if it was kept in its original context.
b. Which rule of interpretation should be followed?
The rule of Biblical interpretation that was not followed and should have been was when a contradiction like this appears, the emphasis should only be given to the multiple passages that are clear rather than to a passage that is isolated and obscure. The only basis for establishing a doctrine cannot be based off the historical occurrence of an event. As well as the writer’s original intent must be the only valid interpretation of a Scripture passage.
c. What interpretation of the passage would be more biblically accurate?
The writer of this passage was Luke and he had many reasons for writing about this, but it was not as an endorsement of a type of communal living to be considered normative for the Christian church was not one of those reasons. A reason Luke wrote this passage was to express how the apostles and the rest of the church had differed greatly in their giving compared to the way Ananias and Sapphira did in their giving. Ananias and Sapphira were giving selfishly by only giving part of the money they had received from selling their land, while the apostles and the rest of the church were giving generously by giving all the money they had. “That is, they f...

...u eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you” (John 6:53 NLT), must have been very shocking for them to hear. In this passage John was really just trying to illustrate that Jesus sustains His believers spiritually, just as water and food sustain it physically. “It is His flesh and blood that gives everlasting life to those that chose to receive salvation. For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life” (Leviticus 17:11 NIV). The expression of eating His flesh has been commonly used as a way of saying to put your faith in Christ. No doctrine or practice should ever be contemplated as being Biblical unless it has been summed up and indeed truly includes all what the Scriptures have said about it.

Within chapter nine, Horsley presents a picture of the socio-economic landscape in which the emergent church was situated. Specifically, he focuses on Philippi, Thessalonica, and Corinth to point to the overarching economic realities of the Ancient Greek world within the Hellenistic period. Through his analysis, we get a greater understanding of the realities of the early church and the overarching mission that Paul and his colleagues were attempting to accomplish.
1. A significant passage we have gone over in class together is Acts 2: 42-47: Communal Living. In this passage the followers became a community and a church and they were spreading the wealth to help other like Jesus would so that none were marginalized and all were taken care of. The followers devoted themselves to the teachings of the apostles and communal life. Everyone would meet up and they would break bread with each other. 2. The author of the Acts of the Apostles is Luke the Evangelist. Luke saw the church and everything that was going on it as the work of the Holy Spirit and that he was enlivening the people to do the things they are doing and working through people such as Paul, John, and others of the Early Church. 3. I see the people actually live as church and the church is changing and becoming more of a community. I see the Holy Spirit in this because it is sort of the main cause of this development of the church be cause he made all of the events leading up to this happen. 4. In this passage I see community of disciples because that is exactly what it became it became a community of followers of Jesus and they had values and lifestyles that differed from the social norm of the times. Community of disciples is defined as a group that devote themselves as followers of Jesus thereby having values and lifestyles that may often be in contrast with society. 5. Having studied this passage, I now realize that the Holy Spirit brought all the people together and because of that they became accepting of each other. Chapter four addresses the divisions within the Corinthian church, such as jealousy, quarrelling and their defective view of the church. The apostle Paul links their view of the church to church leadership stating “If they had a true view of the church, they would have a true view of the leaders of the church” (p79). The situation was that their view was lower for the church and higher for the leaders thus they were boasting about the leaders. Paul’s view was that the Corinthian church was spoon feed Christians not maturing as they should. Paul’s reference to addressing the church as worldly did not mean they were unregenerate because they did possess the Spirit but they were not being spiritual, not being controlled by the Holy Spirit. He goes on to say “They have experienced new birth by the Spirit but have remained babies in Christ; they have not yet become mature in Christ” (p80) The Apostle most likely would express the same opinion about many Church congregations today. Many churches are elated with their church growth, but it is often superficial. If the church does not offer a real growth opportunity the journey is short lived. The church fills up with Christians not participating in the sanctification process. As with many churches today the Corinthians had a self-serving attitude about themselves and their church. The Corinthians would have never behaved the way they did if they had a higher view of the church and what it stood for and a lesser view of the leaders. Paul outlines three visions of the church “each of which has important implications” (p82). An instructive and stirring string of verses, this passage from the Bible holds great relevance not only for the Ancient Israelites to whom it was spoken, but also acts as a herald to Christians today. This passage forms part of Moses great oration; his instructive teaching, advice and counsel narrated to the second generation of Israelites who required redirection before moving forward into what God had for them. Similarly, it is also relevant for all Christians as we remember what our faithful, loving and powerful God has done in the past, and what he requires of us to move forward.

Elizabeth Stanton the publication of whose book, The Woman 's Bible, established her as the pioneer of feminist literature writes in the preface to her book” (Shapira 7-8). While the Hebrews were expected to abide by the laws laid out in the Old Testament by Moses, the coming and crucifixion of Jesus negated many of these laws, as the Law of Grace took precedence over everything prior. In his Doctrine and Discipline of Divorce, Milton uses scripture from both the Old and New Testaments and argues that the Law of Moses was more lenient than that of Grace, and therefore makes more sense.

The depiction of Christianity in a melodramatic fashion aims to keep people interested but it is not taken into consideration that the events that had taken place in Christian texts such as the bible could be equally interesting and exciting if they are depicted accurately within the story being narrated. Movies are over eager when they get a religious topic to work with and place it unnecessarily over the top, so that the religious undertones and lessons are almost lost and to get them, one must pay extremely close attention.

By finding that truth then I and the person reading this paper can leave with an understand-ing on how to comprehend the content of exegesis. I will be exploring many areas of exegesis and will be giving you a brief overview of these and then explaining different uses for exegesis.
Thus, there is a renowned episode with the female sinner (John 8:3 - 8:11) who was supposed to be stoned to death and saved by Christ saying “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her”. Jesus was not in fact censuring the right to kill the woman, according to the ancient law. Besides, there is evidence suggesting that this passage was not present in the original version of the Scripture and was later added by an unknown person (Religious Tolerance). Besides, the passage from Matthew 5:21-22 is supposed to condemn killing: "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment..." These words implicate a person who kills out of anger, but is hardly applicable to cases where a person is murdered through a verdict of qualified
Secondly, the imagery used by the sources differs greatly. One example is worth noting: verse 7 in the Tyndale translation speaks of the testing of the faith; whereas The Message uses the imagery of gold to communicate the same idea. What can be deduced from the differences is the interpretive freedom which developed over the history of Bible exegesis.
