Interpersonal skills impact quality of life. It seems when people look back over their life at their personal and professional affairs the way they treated others is what matters. Interpersonal refers to the interaction between two or more people. There aren’t many business settings that come to mind where people work alone, therefore these life skills have a great impact in the professional world; specifically how we communicate and interact with other people. These skills may also be referred to as human skills or soft skills. Skills of these nature, such as work ethic and manners, are often either self-taught or self-developed. On the other hand hard skills can be developed through studying and training. Self-developed skills play an intricate role in project management specifically in relation to the project sponsor, the project team and other people working on the project, and also the project managers own self-esteem. El-Sabaa observes, “Project managers try to get things done through a large and diverse set of people despite having little direct control over most of them” (El-Sabaa, 2001). When there is varied time spent interacting with the project team and others involved in a project skills such as responsibility, assertiveness, and accountability signify a strong leader. Empathy and emotional intelligence help project managers lead by gauging how a particular team member is doing on any given day.
